This is to the mover I called last week about my small apartment move: I called yesterday to confirm and you said yes, great, see you tomorrow. You were late. I called to make sure you were coming and you hung up on me.
WHAT THE HELL?! Moving is bad enough without shit like this. I pretty much want to eat your entrails. You could have said something. I would have stayed calm and arranged something else. Instead I had to call around frantically and pay more money than I can afford.
Way to go asshole. —Panic attack

Let me guess this “mover” advertised on craigslist/kijiji sketchapalooza pal 🙂
I hired movers off kijiji once and they were great. Although, I agree with Martym… sketch town for the most part.
you get what you pay for, or want to pay for. if you wanted cheapie mover, then you got them, or not. unfortunatly, you got left holding the bag. may i suggest u-haul in the future. easier to have truck booked , and someone to drive, than to go running all over the city.
U-Haul sucks! They have the worst booking system in the world, and you often end up with a vehicle much larger than you needed. But I would recommend renting a truck, and getting a few of your strongest friends to help. Pizza and beer is usually enough to pay, but if you were planning to pay movers anyway you can offer friends money and they’ll likely get the job done. Plus your friends are likely to know how much your stuff means to you, and won’t throw stuff around.
My next move is already paid for, it’s a toss up between Snows or Cruickshanks.
Moving companies in HRM are notorious for overbooking, in hopes that one move will be worth more $$$ than another booked one, and if your move isn’t going to make them enough versus the other moves, they just don’t show up.
OMG they were running late? What was it a few minutes? Did you have a contract? There’s more to this.
I hired a “reputable” company once. After the move they declared cash only! Seriously? Like I carry around $500!! They were on time but only brought 2 guys instead of 3 and then charged me for the extra time at the 3 guy rate…or at least they tried to. Maybe that’s why he wanted cash only. I of course insisted on a numbered receipt just in case…
Conider yourself lucky this guy didnt do waht they are doing these days in toronto – packign your stuff in their truck, then telling you they won’t deliver it for another 3-500 dollars above the original quote…
damn that’s scheisty!
It’s not exactly hard to rent a truck from budget and do it yourself.
Yes I KNOW there are some people who can’t — but every single person I know who hired people to do the move for them did it because they were too lazy and couldn’t be bothered to do it themselves.
I’ve always moved myself. My first move into my own apartment I had a lot of stuff and it was just me and my mom and we managed quite fine. If we can do it, I’m sure there are a lot more that can too.
