After Empire Theatres killed Famous Players a few years back, the amount of diverse movies coming to Halifax has decreased in a dramatic way. I have been waiting months to see The Signal and Diary of the Dead but they never came, and probably never will, to any Nova Scotian theatre. This is really disappointing for me. Anyone else in the same boat?

don’t you guys have repertories here in Hali? i thought they’re all over Canada. they play movies that FP don’t.
Ok, seriously dude. If you’re gonna bitch, know what you’re bitchin’ about.Empire didn’t “kill” Famous Players. Famous Players ran themselves out of business by building too many gigantic gigaplexes in areas of dubious prosperity. They sold to Cineplex Odeon, who was forced by the Competition Bureau to sell off a number of the theatres so that they didn’t have an outright monopoly. As for those two movies, they have only had their initial releases in the past two weeks, and both are in very limited release. Diary of the Dead is playing in one theatre in the entire country (the Carlton in Toronto). It’s not playing in Vancouver or Montreal or Ottawa, so it’s unlikely that it would play in Hali either.
