What is up with the ‘cyclists dismount’ signs? I can understand a sign like that in a blind approach to a road near downtown Halifax, but I’ve been riding some suburb bike trails near Hammonds Plains, and the signs are actually asking me to dismount to cross a rarely used gravel road. —I Have a Car, Too and It’s Not in the Shop

If it’s a pedestrian crossing, it is for pedestrians.
OP, is this the bike trail that you are speaking of?

Cyclists can read? Could have fooled me. Saw one ride right through a 4-way intersection stop sign on the drive home. Pity the Honda Civic she cut off didn’t snuff her out.
Its a damn good thing the honda civic stopped in time. I’ve what a CCM can do to a small car, and it wasn’t pretty.
OB, are you talking about where the trail crosses private roads? If yes, then it’s about safety.
you need to get off the bike, for seconds. boo
OB, you never know when a suzuki firefly might be driving down the road. If you run into them with your bicycle, you would probably kill the driver.
