Mommy when you and daddy and Rover take me for a walk to the Commons and I’m on your back and you push a cross walk button… PLEASE WAIT… WAIT… STOP… LOOK .. and make sure there’s no on coming traffic… WAIT till the light changes Mommy… PLEASE… DON’T charge out in front of the cars laughing and smiling. YES those people beeped the horn at you. There were two lanes of traffic heading for US and you blatently walked out before the cross walk light changed Mommy they still had a green light!!. YOU my dear mother are putting me YOUR innocent child at risk.. if you like walking in front of on coming traffic please do it alone. But dont be like Britney Spears or Michael Jackson and put me…your precious child at risk. And.. looking at a car/truck or bus and laughing really doesn’t stop traffic mommy. Maybe that man was right when he hollared YOU SHOULD HAVE THAT CHILD REMOVED because most mommies and daddies wouldnt take that risk… The woman nicely said out the car window.. SISTER dont walk in front of cars for your child’s sake… you said.. it’s no big deal… well hmmm it sort of is mommy..

I wonder if its the same idiot that was jogging the other day. Here I am standing at a corner with my child when this jogger runs around us and into the road. I should tell you that at the time I was waving (using large arm motions) traffic through. They were coming of the bridge and onto gottingen st. She almost gets hit. what is with people not stopping at a corner and looking or *gasp* waiting , letting traffic through etc
It would be kind of hard to narrow it down to a workable list of suspects JMO. This behaviour is pretty prevelant in this city. At least the mommy in this story was at an actual crosswalk and not just jaywalking like most.
I think Jay walking is safer as people actually look both ways before they “jay”
people in a cross walk must think that those two painted lines are concrete barriers. just because you’re in a cross walk doesnt mean you are safe – i’d bet most accidents and deaths are people actually IN the cross walk who take it for granted that they are safe instead of looking a driver in the eye and waiting for the car to come to a complete stop.
it does take both parties in the end to avoid an accident

I can’t help myself here… I come from Alberta. In Alberta they reason no pedestrian anywhere can nor should compete with a car. In AB pedestrians have the right-of-way. Jay walking is illegal. However, if drivers were trained that the pedestrian had the right of way at ALL cross walks do you think there would be so many crosswalk disasters?
