I am sick and tired of minor hockey “clicks” and all the crap that goes with it…kids are put in the best positions because of who the coach likes and/or whose parents the coach owes. My child is fantastic but is left behind because we are not in the click nor do we kiss ass like other parents do….what ever happened to getting ahead on talent? NOT IN MINOR HOCKEY…if your dad is the coach, then you are the captain of the team regardless of whether or not you can skate or are a team player….WHAT KIND OF WORLD ARE WE LIVING IN HERE!!! You can fund raise til the cows come home, volunteer your butt off and make every practice AND even if your child stands out but is not liked by the coach you are done!!! It is total bullshit…there are fabulous minor coaches don’t get me wrong and I appreciate those who volunteer but give credit where credit is due..

  1. Well, that was deep Ginger… Minor hockey seems to be plagued by crazy parents and bad politics- I can’t recall the last time I heard of another kid’s sport that is so riddled with bullshit- hardly seems worth it. Maybe you should talk to the other parents and see if you can work together to get rid of this coach or maybe you should just consider sending your kid to soccer practice.

  2. lynn I know what you are saying. I have had experience dealing with clicks of all kinds from all angles. It just helps that if you want to be a part of something with clicks then yes deal with it assertively. But if you don’t then leave. But to me leaving is cowardly. Its a person’s choice. And sometimes parents do make it bad for the kids. All the kids want to do is play hockey! Soccer would have clicks there too. It is everywhere. I wish the OP the best really its a hard thing to deal with. Especially if your kid really loves the sport. Best of Luck!

  3. Welcome to Alabama North. This “who you know” culture is everywhere. That’s why if shit happens and I have to breed I’m hauling ass to Ontario

  4. Jane, you are naive if you think things are any different in Ontario. The community may be bigger, so you might not personally know the person who’s bribing the coach to get their son on the hockey team or screwing you over to get that promotion, but that don’t mean it ain’t happenin’.

  5. Sorry miles, I didn’t mean to imply that Minor Hockey is any better in Ontario, I’m sure it’s equally corrupt in all provinces. What I was trying to imply was that at least in Ontario I’d pay less tax and have more community services to show for it.

  6. Don’t forget cheaper food, heating, and electricity in Ontario. Also roads that meet at right angles, and side street that can be used as thru streets in case of traffic.( I know, I know, if I love it so much, go back to from away! A preemptive fuck off to someone about to post that.)

  7. Why not just relax and let your child enjoy the game instead of getting sucked into all this petty clique business? Isn’t that what he’s there for in the first place, to have fun? If he loves hockey so much, then he should be able to enjoy whatever position he is put into by his petty coach, and the sense of camraderie he gets from paticipating with his friends/peers, If he really is the fantastic player you say he is, then why not just relax? Every hockey parent seems to think his or her child is the next Wayne Gretzky. But if yours really is and continues to be as he grows up, then I’m sure that when he’s playing for his high school or university team, it will finally pay off.

  8. Well, newsgal, since you asked, there’s lots of things I like about here, but I just find it frustrating that a town like Halifax with so much potential is being ruined by poor management. The simple fact is everything I said is true, it is simply cheaper to live in Ontario. Or Quebec. Or BC. Or just about every other province. Taxes are really high for the services we don’t get. Also, the planning for the growth of the town is awful. Al lot of the new subdivisions are seperate little areas, with no connection to existing roads. Kind of reminds me of the intro to ‘Weeds’ where they show the suburbs growing. But that’s besides the point and for another bitch. I just get tired of suggestions for different ways to do things being met with accusations of I’m from away and to go back to Toronto (which I’m not from, Ontario is a huge province, roughly 3 times the size of Texas).

  9. What Minor Hockey Association is this? I’d say, maybe you should look into trying a different organization. My son just finished his first year of hockey, and while cliques deffinately exist, they did not affect his enjoyment or mine! And his coach was wonderful!
