I take the bus x2/day everyday, and I never cease to be amazed at just how ineffectively and inefficiently our bus system operates: busses routinely 5 mins early (meaning you miss the bus) or 10-15 mins late (meaning you’ve been waiting 20 mins because you show up super early so you don’t miss it being early), or the fuckin thing doesn’t come at all and you just wait for the next one on the route, also late (happens not infrequently). It’s a goddamn shame we can’t have a working transit system like every other goddamn city. —Still Waiting for the No. 7

  1. Where the fuck does bus x2 take you? Never heard of that route… I thank them for not killing me en route; not having too many crazies on the bus (this never happens in Dartmouth); and, well… for no other reason.

  2. Until there are designated bus lanes (a virtual impossibility in downtown Halifax thanks to the 1749 street grid system & Waye Mason’s bike lanes), transit service will continue to blow massive chunks. And why do they have bus service on the eastern shore to the end of Hfx. county (in the middle of Buttfuck, Nowhere) but not on the friggin’ Prospect Road?!

Metro Transit sucks, always did, always will.

  3. Blaming a few bike lanes for fucking up bus only lanes is one weak ass comment. Anybody who has been alive in Halifax for at least the last 20 years or so has witnessed plenty of opportunities for Halifax to implement bus only lanes which went completely ignored, and the bike lanes didn’t exist so you can’t really blame them. Give me a break.

  4. Oh yeah the posted schedules on the HRM website are wrong. Thats why they appear to be random. Google can be hit or miss for the schedules as well. The new abhorrent go time line is occasionally right if you have the stop and route numbers. Your best option is call Miss Cleo’s psychic hotline and send Metro Transit the bill.

  5. my favorite thing to do waiting for the 7 in the south end is take the 41 if it doesn’t show up and then get one of the 25 buses downtown that go where i need to be.

  6. I have often waited for 30 minutes to catch any one of the FOUR buses that travel by my work in Burnside, to see none of them. The most ridiculous part of that is that they all are supposed to show up within a 10 minute time frame. And the city government wonders why more people don’t use transit.

  7. When it gets to the point that some employers won’t consider you unless you own a vehicle because public transit is THAT UNRELIABLE, there is definitely a problem that needs to be addressed.

  8. Keep thanking the drivers it’s not their fault Transit sucks, Transit sucks because the retards that operate the whole kit and kaboodle like city hall and transit management never take the damn things. You want transit to improve? Make everyone at city hall Mayor, Councillors, and everyone at transit management including the CEO to take the buses to and from work in all kinds of inclement or non inclement weather patterns and see how long it takes to improve things, by I don’t know, putting up a few thousand more bus shelters, benches, or how about enforcing the right of way to buses trying to pull back out into traffic without being bullied by everyone and their dog? How about this city do a better job at educating the public on how to take a damn bus? Cause by what I see in this city, people are dumb as fuck. Put the blame where it belongs, at the top.

  9. SANSEDESSEIN, i have disagreed with many of your past comments. However, on this subject, you couldn’t be more right if you tried. Love the idea of forcing management city workers and management transit workers to stand in the rain and wonder where the “scheduled” bus is. OP, you’re not hurting anyone by not thanking the driver. I do it, just out of habit. Something tells me the drivers don’t give a fuck either way.

  10. Many drivers appreciate the occasional thank-you. The drivers would probably be a lot more pleasant if people had more respect for them. They are after all someone’s Mother, Father, Sister, Brother, Aunt, Uncle, you get my drift? No one likes to be treated like a piece of shit day in day out. That stuff takes a toll on a person. Any of you who thinks driving a bus is so easy and pleasant and a piece of cake should try it yourselves and see how it truly is, not how you think it is.

  11. Designated bus lanes should come before bike lanes….a designated bus lane would have more of an impact. Bedford Hwy should be tolled at rush hour, and one lane for buses and HOV only, with severe fines for the idiots that would travel in it. Enforce the ‘forced merge’ or whatever it’s called that allows buses to cut back in (and make the bus drivers a bit more aggressive….don’t wait for the 6th car to let you in). Start with buses first, then HOV, then bikes. Red light cameras (to catch the selfish pr*cks that barrel through reds and nearly T-bone people)and increased (and enforced) distracted driving fines can pay for the improved transit. Oh, and the idea about city mgmt etc taking the bus for a month…one of the best ideas ever!
