  5. You’re right melectric, this is supposed to be an entirely privately funded concert, in which case, it is none of our business who promotes it. On the other hand, if it is found after the fact that the city did pony up to push this concert along, I say, off with Harold MacKay’s, the mayor’s, and all of council’s heads.

  8. Yup fuck these guys, they screwed over plenty of small businesses and every tax paying citizen of Halifax (which is what made it our business BRoc) and now they’re getting the chance to do it all over again?
    I can’t believe people are actually willing to give these people anymore money, their track record has proven they can’t turn a profit or be trusted to fulfill their end of the bargain.
    Fool Halifax once shame on you, fool Halifax twice shame on us.

  10. Yes, Life Is Great, it was our business then, but if this concert is entirely privately funded and does not involve tax payer money, then you can do your silent protest and not go, otherwise, you have no say in who decides to promote it.

  11. yeah BRoc, I kinda get what you’re saying and you’re partly right but I think we can agree that a person’s past actions and discretions can’t just be ignored so they can turn around the very next summer and get a chance to do it again……I’m not trying to get very deep into a discussion about this and I grew up on Metallica during the Cliff Burton years so I can appreciate how stoked some people will be for this concert, I hope it’s a success for the fans but really I don’t like the idea of MacKay stiffing everyone just to turn around and be allowed to do it again….hope you enjoy the show and I hope they play some old stuff for you.

  12. If they make any profit will they come back and pay up their debts? Doubt ‘er. And then thing is, the city likely WILL pony up “in-kind” services like ground crews to get the site ready, extra garbage removals, cleaning up the mess afterwards, traffic control and all those kinds of things. No matter what, these big concerts should be everyone’s business. Harold MacKay shouldn’t be allowed to start up another company through his wife’s name, or brothers, or whatever without fixing the mess he left in the first place (the mess is equal parts the mayor’s, CAO and TCL’s fault as well).

    No one is ever held accountable in this goddamn city. Argh. The joys of snobbery, incest in gov’t, and smooth talking, palm greasing assholes in charge….

  16. I agree with LIG and Ralmn…this is a little ridiculous that Halifax turns a blind eye constantly to this kind of business management. I hope at least a lot of the small companies such as clean up, security, transportation and so much more don’t get screwed over again when it comes to paying the bill.
    There’s a lot of call centers in the city that do this same trick.

    However now a days, I think I’ll just loaf around the outside and do my best to not pay for their music, but still enjoy it…
