There’s a guy who asks the same question to a million Haligonians every day from his post by the Second Cup on Spring Garden. That question is: “Excuse me, sir/madam, would you be interested in purchasing a copy of Street Feat?” Only once in my five years in Halifax have I seen anyone actually take him up. This man is perhaps the most polite salesperson in the city, and yet he is met with an unbelievable amount of rudeness. His job may seem uncomplicated, but it can’t be that easy, especially when one sees how much rejection he faces during each shift. How about a nice, “No thank you,” instead of just walking past and pretending you don’t see him?

  1. He may be polite but when you get asked every day repeatly it begins to become annoying and you would prefer not to answer!

  2. Then this is going to probably make you feel terrible: That guy is a distant cousin of mine. He’s got some sort of mental handicap (autism possibly) and had a rough time growing up cause his mom didn’t think there was anything wrong with him and insisted he be put in regular classes instead of the special ones, and he got babied a lot by his mother (while his perfectly capable brother got treated like crap). Regardless of his condition, he did have opportunites available to him, and did not need to end up where he is now. Now his mom passed away about 2 yrs ago and hes practically on the streets. Now, I know a few of you are thinking, “Well, if hes related to you, why don’t you help him out?”, that part of the family is not close and when you constantly refuse help for years, you just can’t keep doing it if they keep saying NO. Sure, I feel bad every time I walk by him, but he didn’t have to end up this way.

  3. well at least he is trying to make a living! and putting himself out there! for that i give him credit

  4. Well then I would say he sounds satisfied with what he is doing, myabe he doesn’t mind as much as you think, maybe he enjoys what he is doing thats why he refuses the help!

  5. Elle Elle, thats a shitty excuse for being rude to someone… “He asks me everyday, so now I just ignore him”Saying “no thank you” everyday, Is that gonna strain your pooper?it’s really not that hard… those are three words, that really arent that difficult to say…I’m totally buying one the next time I see him.. How much are they? a Buck??

  6. Well I know this guy myself and I’ll tell you,he does perfer to be doing what he does, because he’s told me that he enjoys being out there meeting new people and or the ones he meets everyday. This guy just plainly loves all people in general,SERIOUSLY!He does have a fan club!
