What gives with the posted hours at the Farmers’ Market? This afternoon, I checked the web to make sure they were open, got in the car, found a parking space (a challenge in itself), fed the meter, and went in to discover that only about a quarter of the vendors were open. Not only was I wondering “what’s the point”, but the cruise ship tourists were thinking that the new gem of our waterfront was a dud. —Back to the Grocer

Ya and the few places that are open are only selling samosas and rice dishes!!
I would imagine that not all the vendors can be at the market during the week for various reasons (such as having other jobs).
You forgot that this is Halifax.
go to dave’s fruits on the number 7 hiway, just before the new sobeys store. better, fresher, and maybe cheaper too. then go down the road a bit to the gateway meat market, their stuff, like dves is all locally grown, and real decent prices, better than even a no fills store.
I have heard that Gateway Meats was good but i didnt realize their meat was local! Must check them out.
do you know the littlest hobo buzzdriver?
I don’t know that all of their stuff is local… I know someone who bought bags of Subway ‘chicken’ there
Oh no! Those poor tourists!!
yeah, they have a few things not locally grown, but very few.sneiders, larsons, and maple leaf are all from here, believe it or not. then they have that wonderful big bags of hamburger, that they do right there. and a host shit load of other stuff. i usually spend about 250 bucks there, compared to about 5 or 6 hundred anywhere else. for the same amount of stuff.

This market is not exactly in an area where many people tend to pass through during a run of the mill day. The reality of a medium sized city with a small population base. It is mainly a ‘destination area’, which makes it just right for the weekend foodie, yuppie, hipster and south-end ‘see and be seen’ chitty-chatty crowds. And there is nothing wrong with that. It is just not viable as a multi-day market now, and certainly not in winter.
Dear God, do you think the farmers could actually be *gasp* FARMING during the week? Not like that’s a 24/7 job or anything.
The list of daily vendors is listed on the website, right above the hours of operation.
idk paingirl?!
i dont think i do Paingirl!?
it’s pdg he drives a bus and i thought you might too, based on your name and purty picture^^
OP, and everyone else who apparently didn’t get the memo (Missy Me Me) Friday was international food day at the seaport so all the regular vendors were gone and vendors selling various foods from around the world were there instead.
OP, don’t waste your time buying that overpriced shit at the Farmer’s Market. You can find more reasonable prices elsewhere.
They probably have more money than you, seb.
Paingirl i am a driver too. i just dont know PDG real name!
after buying my beef from getawayfarms for the past couple of years the only beef i buy from a grocery stores is for stir fries….
Yeah Cranky we’ve been getting our beef from Getaway Farms at the Halifax market for the last few years, too. I rarely buy meet at the supermarket anymore. No more CAFO beef for me.
Hay, Buzz, do you have red hair, by any chance?
LOLZ.
Hay — think gateway meat market would carry brisket, by any chance?
My cousin made a delicious brisket for shabbat (jewish sabbath) and I want morrrreeee. I don’t even LIKE beef roast, but this was omg amazing. Probably because it’s filled with fat and you have to cook it for about 10 hours. heh.
She brought me to a kosher meat market when I was visiting and it was a hilarious experience. They have ‘meat lasagne’ that has no cheese. LOLZ.
No red hair PK and no Harley….LOL
Hey, It’s Gateway Meat Market here….glad to hear you are all loving the store 🙂 Yes, we do get brisket in from time to time, have some right now, but don’t always carry it. A+ to you all for supporting local!
