Why is he better? If Sid hadn’t been injured for a good portion of the season he probably would have won the scoring race again. Granted Ovechkin is the better scorer but Sid is a much better overall player. It’s not about any bandwagon, it’s about fact.

ARE YOU KIDDING?overcheckin was in the Top 10 in hits, scoring, goals, and many other categories.Ok so aside from like Semin, who does AO play with? NO ONE. He is with a bunch of AHL players. Malkin showed how Sid is hard pressed to say he was the best player on his team this year. Lets not go overboard with good portion of season. He was out less than 1/3 of the season.
…and if you can do math, he would have had approximately 111 points for a full season. The measure of overall quality of a player isn’t always goals and assists either, it’s the intangibles like leadership and that ability to make all the players around you better. Gretzky had it, Ovechkin obviously has it, but I think Sid will have it better and longer than Alexander the Great.
PS Another intangible is the ability to win and perform in the clutch (i.e. playoffs).
in today’s hockey…. making the playoffs doesnt mean shit anymore. With a salary cap, it is all about getting lucky when you join a team and hope they have used the cap wisely. Look at Stamkos, he will be cheap because of the rookie minimum, (the same shit crosby and AO are in right now) will be screwed and never make it far. TB has a great lineup, but because of cap space, will be saying by to many players over the next couple of years. Comparing the great one’s era to this one is not fair nor really possible. Teams like Edmonton will never happen again as human greed will break up a core. NO team can make it riding one guy. The team concept now is more important than it was before, because a guys cost dictates how the team will be……. washington, they had to get Huet, because the ollie the goalie was hurt and couldnt stop a beach ball when he played. With no defence in front of him, AO could score a million goals, and still lose. AO bettered a worse team. Crosby makes a decent team better, but as seen this year, if Sid is gone, that team doesnt miss a beat.
