Ok,here it goes: The case in New Bruswick where two sets of parents complain about the national anthem being sung in school and then its pulled by the principal. This isnt about that – although I think that needs to be dealt with- its about the sudden rise of the minorty as policy makers. At the private collage I attend, marks for attendence and business days dressed were taken away because ‘some students’ opposed it. Well, no one asked me – arent I a student? At work our ‘no scent’ policy was ‘modified’ because ‘some’ employees didnt want to bother washing off the crap they wear before coming in – or not taking fellow co-workers into consideration and not wearing it in the first place! Hello!? Who is in charge? Last time I cheaked, the majority is – so to those in charge – principals, presidents and managers, next time ‘someone’ comes to you and complains about a policy please ask the student body and your employees for at least some input before you make any changes. Majority rules- or at least should be taken into consideration

  1. This world has become way too fucking PC lately; ‘oh don’t offend anyone!’ I’m fed up of everyone bending for the minority as to not offend anyone. Bullshit. Sure, accept differences, embrace them, and adapt them into your culture.

I’ll never forget when I was in England, fire stations were told to stop flying the flag because it might offend those who aren’t English.

Now people are pulling the Canadian anthem? What the fuck?

  2. I don’t understand why it was pulled in the first place. That was never made clear, and that’s what bothers me about it. If it’s really about them not being English, the last time I checked, there were two versions, both French and English, or even a combination of the two.

  3. My speculation on the NB issue is that the complaining families could be Jehovah’s witnesses or something similar. We used to have a few JW kids at my school who always excused themselves from the room when we were singing the anthem. I don’t see why that wouldn’t be the better solution for the students in the NB school (whatever their reason for objection).
The principle really dropped the ball on this one. How do you promote tolerance and acceptance by ignoring differences, or worse, trying to eliminate them?

  4. My opinion on PC-ness is that oftentimes, I don’t mind making a small, or even larger, concession to my routine way of doing things, so that another group, even a group smaller than the one I belong to, can feel included. Generally, though, it’s because I feel as if making this change wouldn’t impact on my quality of life. There’s times when I feel like it goes too far, such as this:

Wasn’t there was a time when a no-scents policy would have been seen as a tyranny of the minority?

  5. I have a question, speaking of JW’s, why is it again that they dont stand for the anthem? Ive gone to school with one or two practicing JWs but never thought to ask.
