To all you fat, bearded, assholes driving your noisy Harleys up and down the street at all hours of the night: Who the fuck do you think you are? You claim that bikers do not get the respect they deserve, but do you deserve any respect at all? No, you don’t.
Your need to make as much racket as possible evidently stems from a severely stunted growth. Most other kids grow out of the “playing cards in the tricycle spokes” phase at around 4 years old.
One of these nights when all your bikes are nicely lined up outside the pub, someone is going to come by for a friendly game of HOG dominos… Then watch the fun begin assholes…
—LOL
This article appears in Aug 20-26, 2009.

AMEN to that!
Bike dominos would be a good laugh..
Ah yes, the idiots who ride to Jacobs on Portland St then wake everyone up as they open the throttle wide for a quick trip to Tim Hortons up the street. I’ve been wondering how they and the cops would handle some eggs slipping out of my hand 10 floors above the street as these fuckers ride by.
I had to move from the downtown Hfx area several years ago because of the bike noise all night every Wednesday night at a nearby bar… I appealed to the bar owner, the police; they even held a community meeting to discuss the noise problem with the local HRM councillor, but in the end, nothing was done…
What I don’t understand is if I was driving my car around town with that decibel level coming from my engine, I would be pulled over and given a ticket… Why not these guys?
I hate loud Harley’s.
These guys are losers with small penises.
Not much else to say….
Actually, it’s a safety feature.
Most fellow riders out there will have been many time dangerously cut-off by a lazy, coffee-swilling yuppie in an SUV that doesn’t check his blind spot, – something that quite definitly happens less when the mini-van milf hears ya comin’!
So, it’s all about safety…
Got a problem with safety?
Sorry Frosty wrong answer. You may think so, but not true. The sound of the engine goes to the rear, not to the front of the bike. Hell, people don’t hear sirens directly behind them and they are forward facing.
Gosh, bro’ Tim, and to think that for hundreds of years natural scientists, early physicists and the great thinkers of the past century have assumed that sound travels spherically concentrically, not in any one particular direction…
Fools!
Have you contacted MIT with your findings?
a Nobel prize awaits you, my friend…
and the second worst offenders are those little shit box tuner cars. they have to be the most annoying thing at times, like say 3 in the fucking morning, with loud crap blaring from their little brain dead owners stereos. fuck you assholes,i got me a bat for the next sucker that wakes me from a sound sleep.
The argument that noisy exhaust is a safety feature is false. I had a loud chopper pass me on the Bicentenial today and the obnoxious racket was only noticed as he approached the front end of my vehicle, then for several thousand feet as he made sure everyone knew he was making up for having a very, very, tiny penis.
Whether or not YOU are able to hear an approaching loud exhaust (radio on? Windows up/ac blasting?) is irrelevant, but thanks for the anectdotal ‘evidence’.
Most people CAN hear a loud bike coming, and it fact, it is precisely this “false” arguement as you call it, that has prevented noise laws that apply to car exhausts, from applying to mc’s…
Didn’t you ever wonder how we/they get away with it?
Now, you know…
You’re welcome. Enjoy your large penis.
I think what Frosty may be trying to say is that the owners of bikes made by Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and the umpteen brands of (rice burner!!!) bikes NOT made by Harley, are ALL missing this important safety feature, and we should all go saw the pipes off (open headers) right now…
Also Frosty will soon be telling us the reason that riding a Harley rattles the ass off the (asshole!!!) rider is ANOTHER safety feature, created intentionally for preventing the rider from falling asleep at the wheel, not unlike rumble strips at the side of the road…
Yep, those fine Harley builders and riders are actually doing us ALL a favour, don’t you know…
Did some research, because I figured if Frosty’s rambling smelled like shit, it probably was shit. Looks like the trademark Harley sound is simply a product of the type of engine they use.
Most of the loud pipes are after market pipes, not the stock Harley pipes. I ride a Kawasaki V Twin, and if I put on after market exhaust, I could make it as loud as any Harley. I don’t though. I much prefer a quieter bike and just drive more defensively to avoid being in the blind spot of the soccer mom in the SUV that doesn’t bother with the shoulder check because it is too difficult to do while talking on her cell. I live on a busy street and don’t care for being awaken by a loud bike of any make or the teens in the tuner cars with the sub woofers that put out enough base to rattle my windows.
I just can’t wait to see what happens to a Harley when combustion engines are outlawed and silent, electric engines the norm. Do you think the receding hairlines will grow back in and will the penises grow?
Kay, when the engines are silent, these growth-stunted juveniles will go back to a clothespin and playing card in the spokes… Full circle…
Actually the CEO of Harley is against loud pipes.
http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/newsandup…
VOR I forgot that we lived in the same building, and yes those bikes piss me off as well. I also wonder how none of them get picked up for drunk driving. 20 bikers don’t show up at a bar at 7-8:00, leave at 1am, and not have any drinks. Jacobs/Joes are sketchy spots, I highly doubt it’s a DD type of place.
Haha – nice try B-roc,
But my 650 twin Yamaha engine in my old chopper with the baffles removed in ONE of the two pipes is just as loud as any Harley Davidson, I can assure you…
In fact, what’s your address, lol…it’s a nice day for a ride, innit
😉
Fuck Right Off Frosty with your loud mouth and your equally loud bike… You are a patheticaly small minded weak and worthless piece of shit… Oh yeah I almost forgot, have a great day….
Nothing a little sugar in the gas tank will not fix…
I’d strongly advise against that “Bobby”. One day, when you grow up, you might want to have a car or a motorcycle too, and just think how you’d feel if teenagers vandalized it?
heya Floyd…I’m a big fan of spotting what I like to call “incidental non-intentional acronyms”…
You just came up with FROF-ing at the mouth (or pen)…sweet…
It’s kinda like dropping that load in your pants in first grade, innit Floyd? You didn’t MEAN too, but the teacher was nice to you from then on, wasn’t she?
Frosty my man- I am all grown up and have no urge to get a motorcycle. But I can tell you that if I ever did, I would show more respect for people around me than to ride around revving my engine with the baffles removed or with an after market pipe. You see, that is the difference between respecting people and not giving a fuck what they think.
AHEM…there are A LOT of sexist comments in this bitch thread! As a FEMALE Harley rider for 12 out of 23 years riding, the bearded/penis remarks are presumtivly insulting! With 23 years riding experience the 2 non-at-fault accidents I was a victim of could easily have been avoided had I been riding my Harley as opposed the the quieter non-Harley. Loud pipes save lives! As long as drivers of 4-wheeled vehicles continue to ‘not see’ the motorcyclist, loud pipes will continue to be a life-saver. THAT is why a lot of bikers run loud pipes! It has naught to do with genitalia or rectal sizes.
Actually Oceanlady,
DEFENSIVE driving saves lives…not some weak-water excuse for having an obnoxiously loud bike. Sure the accidents might have been “not at fault” but really and honestly the only accidents that cannot be avoided and are purely one-sided in terms of fault are rear-end accidents.
Sure idiots don’t check their blind spots…but you know this, as do most people, so why would you stay in someones blind spot? I drive a car (so I likely feel more safe than a biker) and yet I still make sure that I either exit potential blind spots by speeding up or more generally the smart move..I slow down. If I have no choice but to increase speed to exit the blind spot…I use the already provided communication device called “The Horn”, nothing big…just a short toot and then I apply acceleration knowing that the person now knows that I am there. No continuously loud and obnoxious noise required for that is there?
Mr Frosty, while I support your right to express your opinions and I do agree somewhat with your statement in another post about Personal Freedoms…you have misunderstood the principle of it all. Personal Freedom only extends until you begin to trod another persons personal freedom…then it becomes Public Nuisance, or what many like to term as “being an asshole”. You have clearly expressed your beliefs and we all understand…you don’t mean to be one but you are too arrogant to know better.
You like to drop quips that make you seem educated and witty yet you adhere to a person behavior pattern that is in direct conflict with the education I just mentioned. You at least must read a great deal to have used the references that you have…or you have an intelligent friend that you have spongedgleaned from. Either way…at this point you know better and to me it is obvious that you are either:
A) Playing devils advocate for the sake of light-hearted debate and fun (I do it too).
or
B) Just an asshole that should know better but chooses to continue being an idiot.
I would like to point out to some of you who seem to like putting out “sound” as a motorcycle safety feature.
1st sound is directional. It only travels in all directions equally, IF & ITS A BIG IF ! there is nothing in any direction to absorb the sound, reflect the sound.
If any condition like that is in place , aka; trees, buildings, traffic , sound coming out of a small round hole(s) facing in the opposing direction as to the direction of the object creating the sound is traveling, it will be louder behind the bike than in front of it.
There is also the problem of sound speed. it moves through the medium of ‘air’ quite slowly, just over 340m/s (I believe different air densities make a difference, but I degress) So if you are traveling in a vehicle ( a car, truck) moving through an enviorment that has sound dampening & reflecting capabilities, while cranking your radio or talking through your “Borg’ implant or just stuffing your donut & coffee into your face….chances are pretty good the LOUD pipes coming from another direction, aren’t going to do anything except, fry the high end of your hearing range somewhat earlier than would normally happen.
But hey, if they’re really loud, & still don’t actually work & you get killed because you were trusting that instead of paying attention, you don’t have to worry about going deaf.
I ride….. ’cause it feels good…..I’ll tear it up the road loud……’cause it feels good……I’ll leave you at the stop…….’cause it feels good; I can assure you, It’s got nothing to do with penises and it’s not a statement about you……..it ain’t about you……..it just feels good……..it’s one of the true ways you can get away from it all…………if only for a while…………and fuck……it feels good.
So sorry to disturb, truly I am………but it feels so fucking good…………….you should try it!
Not insisting on engaging in an unsafe mode of transportation also saves lives, Oceanlady.
Nobody put a gun to your head and made you ride a motorcycle around the city. If you choose to do this activity, you assume the risks.
I don’t have much sympathy and I certainly don’t buy it as a defense for these incredibly loud and disruptive bikes. They are just flat out obnoxious and inconsiderate.
Lemme know where they park their bikes, and I’ll go piss on their tires.
Der says – “”Personal Freedom only extends until you begin to trod another persons personal freedom”‘
That’s a cop-out bro’, and kind of a silly platitude, really…One could say that about just about anything. Perhaps you would like the freedom to sing Christmas carols in public – I’m an anti-theist and would like to be free from your proselytizing*…You might like the freedom to use pesticides, and I’m allergic…your freedom to drive a car or take the bus, interferes with my freedom to be free from exhaust fumes… your “freedom” to pedal your bi-cycle to work nullifies my right to not smell your sweaty nut-sack in the next cubicle….the list goes on and on.
Contrary to what the peanut gang posting on this thread may think, noisy bikes ARE safer, even if they are annoying (many are) and that’s why no-one (except CA) has been safely able to “ban” them as easily as cars, where it is not a safety issue. Don’t whinge at me…talk to the cops.
Just because you don’t like me, or what I’m saying, doesn’t make me wrong**…
* I had to ask me giant-brained idiot-savant brother, GooD mR fRosTy how to spell that one. He helps me answer all the tough ones like DER?’s post!
** hey DER?, me brudder wants to know – What’s the difference between “seeming” witty, and, uh, actually “being” witty?
Footnotes? I’ll piss on those too.
Ironically I drove to work today and was about to make a lane change. I looked in this little piece of glass attached to my passenger side door and low and behold, I could see a reflection in it!! What IS this thing I asked my wife? She said “It is a MIRROR dear”. In this “mirror I could see a Honda mortorcycle about to go by me in the other lane. Thank GAWD I had that mirror because he only had factory installed exhaust and without that I could not hear him coming! And then, not long after that, the very same thing occured except it was one of those tiny SMART CARS! I am wondering whether they should start putting loud pipes on these as well so we can hear them?
To me, defensive driving trumps loud pipes for safety, and yes, I ride a non-Harley. I can see the loud argument to a certain degree, but what OP is referring to are the bikes that take loud to new levels. There’s safety loud (good), and then there’s wake the neighborhood loud (not so good).
Wow, B33, (poorly written) sarcasm on the internet, what a refreshing change…
Hey Frosty,
Lol @ seeming and being witty, to answer your question: well in terms of my referencing “seeming witty” I was referring to your own perception of how you are presenting yourself to others…ie “being witty” when in fact others were not perceiving the same thing.
Also to answer your generalizations as a defense:
Singing xmas carols anytime of the year they want- people are free to do so if they wish…as long as the don’t use a bull horn and in a manner that would be deemed as an interruption of a reasonable expectation of peace in a neighborhood. (though…I agree with you on a personal level…I HATE xmas carols and rather dislike hearing carolers coming door to door, but I just turn on some music and don’t answer the door)
Pesticide Use: Banned in HRM for several reasons, the environment naturally (no pun intended) and actually because of individuals physical sensitivity to them.
Driving cars, buses, bikes…ok so please tell me how you obtained the ability to fly, I am totally on board with flying. If you don’t want to tell me I will still stop driving to work if you agree to fly me…I am a good conversationalist and I am sure we would have some great debates on the way into work.
In all seriousness about cars and buses and bikes, and all of your points actually, what the root term to describe the allowance of these things: “Reasonable Expectations” If you have a carbus that is spewing a large amount of exhaust when in operation that would be unreasonable and the vehicle owner could be ticketed, as for the nasty smelling co-worker you should have a REASONABLE expectation not to have to work in a cubical with someone ranking up the place and a quick email to HR explaining the issue would likely resolve that easily.
Now…back to the actual issue: I think Plastic Diver Guy has hit the nail on the head (and it directly relates back to Reasonable Expectations), it is not the Harley’s and their already noticeable and distinct sound level (which should be more than sufficient to alert other drivers of their presence should you feel you need that as a safety measure), it is the after-market ground shakers that are at issue…they are in all honesty unreasonable and overboard, some of them are loud enough to make peoples ears ring after they go by (which if you are unaware…indicates a minor occurrence of actual hearing damage).
Ride your Harley to your hearts content…just don’t be an asshole about it. 🙂
“”they are in all honesty unreasonable and overboard, “”
Yes, some are, I guess I grudgingly agree. 🙁
But don’t forget this – It was a popular sport back in the ’90s in Vancouver to gear “up” (more unburned gas igniting in the headers) and “gun” it past a row of parked Yuppie SUV’s, thusly triggering their stupid and ineffective car alarms with the sonic shock wave…heh heh heh.
Trust me, when the smoke clears and all that remains is the cacophinic chorus of these trill and shrieking useless devices, it’s not too far off to call it the “most fun you can have with your clothes ON”, lol!
In fact, that sport, (and the fines for repetitive and persistent alarms (mostly false)) should receive credit for ending the trend of the $99 alarms that ran all night, every night, at night…
So, yeah, not only is a loud bike a safe bike…but they helped quiet the city at the same time!
(listens with hand to ear) No takers, lol?
How’s that for streeeeetching?
LOL, Anyway, yeah, some bikes are TOO loud, but that’s aftermarket exhausts, nothing to do with the engine type/design as someone wrongly stated…
Also too loud, are these boat-show bought faux “cigarette” boats with open-type exhaust that are starting to show up in the bays and coves of NS. They don’t need to be loud, for performance or any reason…
…A friend of mine in BC had a real ‘kevlar-hulled’ Scarab 37 however – with triple 454s, and a SWITCH where he could go from “silent sam” type underwater exhausts, to near-open headers at full throttle!
Oh my, such fond memories of a 3:00 AM run up Indian Arm, and then, ahem, the return trip…I can still picture the lights coming on in the mansions behind us as we roared back to our boats at Mosquito Creek at just under 90 knots…
fun fun.
Bet they’re still mad, all these years later…
Har!
I think i hate the types of people Harley’s tend to attract more than the decile level the bikes produce.
It’s kinda how I feel about the UFC, I love the sport but hate the fans.
Also – why on earth would anyone buy something that was mechanically complex that was made in America?
if you want something that cost a lot of money, is a pain in the ass to maintain, breaks down often, and sounds cool….Get a Ducati!
Frosty…both of those entertainment choices sound absolutely awesome…though the fun I would derive from it would be from the pestering the yuppies part (evil grin). You are right too…I have noticed an increase in the “Cigarette” type boats…not sure why people are buying them around here what with our rougher seas…seems like a recipe for trouble and guaranteed submarine incident if the boat isn’t trimmed right.
“”if the boat isn’t trimmed right.””
lol absolutely…bow down to get up on the step…but back up again to let the deep V hull do it’s work.
,,,oh yeah, the faux ciggies don’t have a deep V…good luck in St. Margaret’s Bay in a sou’west sea…
It is nice to hear from people who were NOT present during both of my non-at-fault motorcycle accidents who know nothing of the details and those of you who assume my imagined lack of defensive driving skills somehow contributed in some way to either accident.
With 23 years experience -including passing defensive motorcycle riding course with flying colours- I know how to ride defensively and responsibly.
I was merely pointing out that both these accidents occurred while riding a quiet bike. Never had anyone say they didn’t know I was there as I lay bleeding on the ground while I was riding the noisy Harley. So, in my personal experience, quiet pipes contibuted to the other parties not being aware of my proximity when they performed illegal manoevers which caused the accidents.
And no, nobody put a gun to my head. Neither are car, truck, van, bicycle etc. drivers similarly motivated but mobility related fatalities occur to them as well.
baD mR fRosTy calling suv drivers lazy? Um…how come most people I see on motor bikes are fat or near fat?
I don’t drive an SUC or a motor bike but just curious how one can be lazier than the other…I thought being fat was part of owning loud bikes? Same as the mustache and skullet.
