to my roommate who just lost his cat:
I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I can tell that you loved that cat more than you love a lot of things, and frankly, I envy you for that (as a dog person who owns a cat, I never bonded with my feline pet like I did my dog). I want to do something nice to make you feel better, but you’re a new roommate, and I don’t want to overstep my boundaries (side note: to anyone reading this, might you have any ideas to perk a 30-something man up from grieving a loss?). Although I am not a religious lady, I am spiritual, and I will pray for you and send you all the positive energy I have. Wish there were more I can do. If you’re reading this, know that I care very much. Hopefully the support will be enough for a little bit of a smile , or at the very least, hope. —wish I could have done more.

There’s not much you can do OL. This kind of grief will last a little while, just be understanding as you seem to be.
