I’ve just returned to Halifax after a few months away and am APPALLED by the Haligonian pedestrians. I absolutely agree that pedestrians always have the right of way, but for God’s sake, if you’re going to cross the street, use your brain and check to make sure the oncoming traffic has seen you before you dart out into the road!! If I see you, I will stop, but if you run out in front of me you’re risking both my safety and your own. —Disgruntled Driver

Since when do pedestrians always have the right of way? At intersections with traffic lights this sure isn’t the case…
well, it’s right about half the time…
unless you count the willow tree which should never
have been designed that way anyways.
It’s the non-marked crosswalks that drivers suck the most at yielding to.
Pedestrian don’t dart. Deer do, children do but not pedestrians. Pedestrians sometimes stroll onto the street without paying enough heed to vehicular motion but not the dart thing.
However those drivers who are going a bit too fast are startled by the suddenness of the pedestrian who just appeared in front of them. Might seem like a dart but sorry it wasn’t.
Don’t ever question a pedestrians or a cyclists “right of way”. That’s the first law of Halifax. Drivers bad, everything else good.
You’ve obviously never been to Mumbai, OB.
People just keep getting dumber and dumber, I see it everyday. Sigh.
