Why the fuck do long distance calls cost so much in 2009? I can understand paying more for long distance in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and even part of the 90’s, simply due to the fact that phone companies were developing the infrastructure needed and even had operators directing calls. But come on, it is now 2009 you look at your house from space, email money, but yet you have to pay huge amounts for long distance calling??

I realize there is skype and other applications that are cheaper, but that is not the fucking point, my point is WHY THE FUCK DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR LONG DISTANCE IN CANADA IN 2009!!

You can fly to BC for around $900 and it costs about that much a month to call there!!

FUCK!!

  1. Maybe the company that supplies your local phone has to pay the other companies that run local phones to use their infrastructure. The companies just pass the charges on to you by charging you per-minute rates.

  2. Well, if you are using long distance like you said, get VOIP or Skype. No need to get all frustrated and bothered, in fact Skype (once you get it up and running) is completely free, and you can do it while you look at your house from space. You’re making an anthill into a mountain.

  3. My sister is in England and her regular phone/internet service lets her call anywhere in the world, for 90 minutes at a time, for free, so she calls me instead of me calling her. And she can in fact call, talk for 90 mins, hang up, call back 1 min later and get another 90 mins free. So it’s not everywhere that has shitty long distance plans.

  4. use skype, $3.00 a month and you can call the US and canada for an unlimited amount of time.

You just need a computer and a headset, then you can call land lines. It doesn’t allow incoming calls from land lines (in Canada).

  5. skype will slow down your comp is the downfall
try using yak or ask your phone provider what they have avil, also longdistance calling cards

  6. They can take advantage of the ~$30/month flat rate anytime and unlimited use plans from Eastlink or Aliant. Long distance in Canada isn’t as expensive as the OP is making it out.

  7. Even if you can’t afford long distance plans, calling cards are decent, if you can stand not being able to call in the middle of the day for the best rates.

  8. Am I missing something here? As Miles said, unlimited long distance calling with the 2 major local companies is $30 a month. Get a fucking grip!

  9. If you rely on VOIP for your communications… how/who you gonna call when the power goes out? Nobody.
