I’m tired of seeing restaurants using the word local only to find out of season produce and obviously imported meats and cheeses on the menu. Almost every “decent” restaurant in the city is using the word local to describe their food. And yet we see fresh berries, tomatoes, peppers, olives, huge shrimp… the list goes on. When did it become okay to lie outright to your customers? —Support Local, Seriously

Hell, OP, even the guy in back who defrosted it it is probably from Mexico, or Sri Lanka. Instead of being so narrowly xenophobic (No offence Xeenie) try embracing the diversity of this big, wide world in which we are all brothers.
Hey Subtard,
One word for you: Greenhouse.
Call me an asshole, but I’ll take my $2.99 pint of Mexican blueberries over the locally grown $5.99/half pint any day.
Tak man has a point.
Local strawberries are tasty, but gawd DAMN it’s nice to have huge ass strawberries this time of year (cheap at that!).
Berries and greek yogurt = t3h yum!
Fuck those Franckenberries. They are freaky.
Aren’t they considered local because the restaurant is located/originated from here? I’m sure they use as much local food as they can, but have to get fruits and things on the outside. I guess their winter menu could just consist of snow cones and a side of soggy grass if that’s what you really want…
How far away do you have to go before it’s not considered local? I know with building materials it’s 800km by truck, and 1200km by boat. That would allow for produce from the upper U.S.
Also, what Hooligan said “Greenhouse”, DUH!
I am so sick and fucking tired of this local shit too.
It’s a marketing ploy to lighten my wallet.
NO, I won’t buy your $5 head of lettuce; NO I won’t buy your $7 basket of berries.
I am NOT fucking stupid like those who go to the farmer’s markets.
Mel i was thinking the same thing. The word “local” does in no way state, or even IMPLY “locally grown” unless it’s written on the food itself. And even in that case, we’re talking implication at best.
Op is talking about restaurants so let’s look at local in that context. Because “local” usually means “local fare”.
if the local bullshit or resturants pisses you off OB…the ingredient list on most packaged foods is going to put you through the stratosphere.
When I pick up a juice at the stupermarket that says its Pomegranate/Blueberry, & the ingredient list starts off, water, grape juice, apple j…..
WHAT THE FUCK !
Sorry, the reading of package ingredients & my refusal to buy the bullshitting brands is getting to me !
Doesn’t leave you with a whole lot of options, eh More. I stopped giving those juices to my kids. .
Local produce this time of the year is a bit of a stretch OP.
yeah, really o.p., when was the last time anyone has seen a local yak.
