We (humans) are not very good custodians of our planet. Take a walk by the Joe Howe Superstore and look at the literal heaps of garbage that people leave by the railtracks or take a walk by the Kechen Goodman Library in Clayton Park and look at the piles of garbage in the roadside ditch. This is disgraceful. Why aren’t there people cleaning this shit up? Why do people care so little about this little rock that we live on? WAKE THE FUCK UP

  1. While I completely agree with you, OP, do you go out and clean up that stuff? I highly doubt it. Probably for the same reasons no one else does.

  2. Like Kelly said: ‘do your part’. Why don’t you pitch in and attempt to clean some of it up yourself instead of counting on other people? I agree though, this place isn’t our own personal litterbox. I can’t even count on more rubbish barrels doing the job.

  3. Once upon a time low-risk jailed individuals were tasked with these sorts of jobs…under watch, of course. Does this happen anymore? I never see it. And before anyone decries the inhumanity of making prisoners pickup garbage – they get fresh air and are out of confinement and society sees a measure of repayment.

  4. People are concerned about the enviroment, they are to busy worrying about there carbon-foot print to give a shit about real enviromental concerns.

  5. Yeah go to Pete. Oh wait the city just charged someone for picking up garbage. Take a plastic grocery bag with you to put garbage in. Oh wait those things are evil. Nevermind just throw your garbage anywhere.

  6. Three: Yes, they were out last summer with a bunch of very depressed looking juveniles.

OP: So get down there and pick some shit up. Winter just ended, everywhere looks like a littery hellhole, especially when the spring storms ruck it all up.

  7. Oy… Hey, OP, if you’re that concerned, why don’t you go and pick it up? That seems like a reasonable situation. If that sort of thing bother you that much, you should go check out the woods surrounding the HRM waste facility. It’s like the bloody trees are growing plastic bags.
Rafiki– Our carbon “footprint” is much more dangerous than a bag floating in the breeze. Some bags in a ditch can’t compare to driving a car to and from work day after day.

  8. Get them bored, pampered inmates to clean it up. A long day of work would make them too tires to be rioting. Funny that they have highly paid military guys voluntarily cleaning up their “adopted” streets but they wouldn’t want to force the incarcerated guys to go out and help clean up.

  9. I’d like to see everyone doing their part to minimize going forward. As to whats already there I agree with inmates doing it too as part of giving back to the community. They would probable kick up a stink about how degrading it is though. The younger ones will go on about people seeing them and young offenders privacy act.

  10. ohhhh….OP (that’s me) should be the one to pick it up…..I’ll issue you all a challenge anyone else give a shit????? Post here….let’s start a little volunteer thing….EMAIL me @ glasshammer@gmail.com

let’s get some city backing while were at it….hey Mr Mayor wanna provide a couple hundred garbage bags/blue bags plus the city trucks to pick this up?????
