While I enjoy the vibrancy and life the returning students bring to the neighbourhoods surrounding Halifax’s universities my blood pressure is starting to rise this week with the amount of litter already accumulating in my neighbourhood.

The houses where it’s most appalling are the ones full of the pseudo hippy/hipsters who are all preachy about cars and oil spills and global warming yet can’t pick up their empties, Tim Hortons cups, fast-food wrappers, butts and assorted junk.

Come on students! There are no garbage fairies here and your mommy isn’t around to clean up after you. As a favour to those of us who live here year around please keep your adopted neighbourhood clean! —Not the garbage fairy aka The Master of Shame

  1. I think the problem is with EVERYONE not just students. But how easy it is to blame the cities problems on them.

  2. You’re right, ES. I know it’s fall for sure when people start blaming the city’s ills on “students.” News flash: without ‘students’ in HRM our economy would be WAY more fucked than it already is.

  3. Yep, the student loans make the world go round in towns like this one. But still – the furniture and crap hanging all around the streets is an eyesore, but should be picked up soon, I hope.

Everyone needs to stop littering and being pigs.

  4. don’t take upholstered furniture from the street into your cave…it could contain some crimson warriors

  5. My lawn constantly has other people’s garbage all over it. Most recently an empty fucking apple bag and a cigarette pack wrapper. I live nowhere near the student ghetto. I live near the real ghetto. Assholes are assholes no matter where they live, and assholes litter.

  6. The “real” ghetto? As if there is such thing is in the Maritimes. Take a walk through Compton or parts of NYC or the projects in Chicago. You wanna see some trash and “ghetto.” You small town yokels, thinking you’re so tough because you are on welfare and don’t put your Tim Hortens in the garbage. Ugh.

  7. North Preston is pretty ghetto looking. A lot of the really ghetto parts of major American cities are starting to get cleaned up, too. The Bronx ain’t what it used to be!

I do hate those fucking pseudo hippy/hipsters though. Halifax is becoming over-fucking-run with them.
