Anyone else catch the news about liquor store Monday evening? Not only are these exorbitant prices getting raised, but they put it into effect a couple days earlier than they were supposed to “due to a computer glitch”. What a coincidence that this caused the prices to rise the day before the long weekend instead of the day after. It would appear that this little glitch has made them a lot of money. They are offering to refund the difference but we all know that the majority of people don’t even keep their receipt or would even bother. I don’t really care about the little bit of money I could have saved but it’s sheisty! They make enough money ripping us off as it is, they don’t have to stick it to us that little extra bit on Easter weekend! —Glitch Bitch

This state of confusion prevents the herd from coalescing and engaging in their time honored tactic of bullying.

How much gas, wear and tear on your vehicle and environmental emissions did you use in the process to collect your “principle dollar”? Now don’t get me wrong, I do “get it”, but maybe a better way to handle this would be to donate the overcharges to a non-profit organization in that LC’s area? Better yet…to addiction programs! At least 100% of the overcharge would be taken care of because I bet a majority didn’t bother with the refunds (and we know darned well that the NSLC counted on it!). Just sayin’

How do you suppose we get out of this crushing debt, Tim? Lower taxes and make everything the government provides, free of charge?
I have a solution, unfortunately its a tax. Its a lot better than any of the other solutions from government and its ridiculously easy. Its a non-negotiable, mandatory, incremental (based on salary), set fee, tax for every tax return filed for over 50,000 dollars/year. If you make over 50,000 grand, you owe X on the debt every year. That amount increases by a set amount every 50,000 until you reach 250,000 dollars, then it could go up in increments of 250,000 to a preset cap. If it is legislated that no government, for any reason, can redirect that money to anything, ever, period, the debt would disappear a lot quicker than it is now. When the debt is paid, the tax is dissolved. In this scenario, I would be happily paying my extra tax. But, I bet it wouldn’t be popular cause it would cost people money.
I don’t know but maybe reduce spending, cut the bloated civil service, live within their means, freeze/reduce wages, etc, might be a start. You might like paying high taxes but the rest of us don’t.
You are part of the bloated civil service, Tim. If you don’t like high taxes, then be an example and turn down your “overtime pay” and forgo your “defined benefit pension” for straight time and matched RRSP contributions like the rest of us. What’s that? Didn’t think so!!!!!

I wrote this and upon further investigation it wasn’t the whole weekend, just went in Saturday instead of Monday. I thought it was the whole long weekend and it seemed suspicious to me that it took them so long to report this. But it only really took them 1 full day, a Sunday at that. They’re donating the money, all is forgiven.

For those who want to save money , there are quality wine kits available. you can make many very decent types for 2-3 dollars a bottle. Some of the beer kits available are spot on as well.
But then you have to make an effort & for many the lack of space, & time constraints make the extra cost ‘worth it’ for them.
My last trip to the DR it was about $3 a bottle of extra viejo rum, here they want $31 dollars for it…you figure the mark up out !
