I live in north end Halifax and the library I go to is a joke. I don’t know why teenagers are allowed to literally run around, swear and be extremely offensive amongst the public. Is the staff afraid of them? If I worked there all it would take is one loud profanity or rambunctious behaviour and the offender would be kicked the hell out. No other library in the city is like this. Also I tried to complain but nothing was done. I wonder why those teens are held to different standards than other teens in other places. —Teen Wolf

  1. I blame the parents of the children for not teaching their children to respect others. It isn’t easy to inforce rules when rules at home aren’t taken seriously.

  2. ah, a dinosuar library bitch, hey there folks, there are still those things open. i thought with this new fangled thing called internet, they would be extinct by now. hey there o.p., this is the 21st. century, and as such, do your hunting online, you will find so much more, so easily too. and you get to keep your sanity from the little fucks running around, causing havoc.

  3. Yes, the staff is afraid of them.
    And their parents are idiots.
    And they’re entitled ingrates.
And I swear to God I think I’m 100 years old right now…

  4. The library in alderny is far worse. It’s a library not a gym for fucksakes jesus.

  5. OMFG i swear i was going to post a bitch about the exact same thing like today; i’m looking for work and accom. w/o a computer so i’m forever using libraries all over Vancouver for internet. I’m not one of those library phyco’s that can’t deal with a little chatter but it’s like a gym locker room in here like you said running swearing; one dude was skate boarding for fuck sakes; there’s security types all over and not a single word there too busy turning off the fucking anti-theft device giving false alarms; holy fuck i can’t beleive this shit!

  6. LS, of course everybody can afford a computer and internet access (sarcasm). Try opening a laptop on a crowded bus to read or a car or a plane or somewhere where there is no access to the net.

  7. Call the cops. You know how HRPD will respond to the aid of any white person having issues with non-white people. My guess is the library will receive a SWAT-like response to your complaints.

I mean, if the HRPD can taser a 17-year-old Black girl for doing nothing wrong then they’ll surely taser other Black teenagers for being loud in a library.

  8. Who said anything about blacks? I’ve never seen a black teen in a library – JK!

Nothing wrong with a good book now and then and if you don’t want to pay for a hard cover the library is the place to go. LS – dude lighten up, your tax dollars pay for them so why not use it IF you want to and as far as security goes, most of them are a joke. You walk in on Monday and you’re on the street Tuesday. Every other province requires you to have a Level 1 and 2 Basic Security Training, while NS only requires you buy your shirt…

  9. I work in one of the library branches and it is NOT our responsibility to look after the kids/ teens that come in. It is the PARENTS responsibility. We are NOT a babysitting service like alot of parents think. All library branches have had their share of problems such as patrons assaulting staff, patrons masturbating and patrons stalking staff. The police handle these issues. Issues that involve fines, destroying library materials, etc are handled by supervisors.

  10. These pimp-tots and kinderwhores have guns and the staff do not. I’m going to tell their big-assed mama their illegitimate daddy-less spawn were acting up? Not in my lifetime.

  11. It is so easy to blame the parents, we don’t know that they are not trying to discipline the little brats. I have a little monster that just WON’T listen to me. I’ve DONE everything a mother can do: I’ve locked her in her room, I’ve beat her with the car aerial. Nothing changes her. It’s HARD being a loving mother!

  12. bro tim, so what does being on a plane have to do with a library, net maybe. and dawn,if you did that to your kid, and said so here, using a real name, is sure to get you a visit from the cops.if your kid is that much trouble, either make her father get involved, or say goodbye, she is obviously too much of a handfull for you. let her see the door that will hit her ass on the way out. afterall, you can’t stop her from doing what she wants on the street anyway. might as well give her the boot. then your problem is solved, right?

  13. LS it’s your assumption that everyone has computers/laptops or whatever that can be used everywhere. Sorry but you be wrong. Not everyone can afford them and they cannot be used everywhere. Libraries will always be important.

  14. God, I remember just 20 years ago the library used to be a respectable, quiet place to go. Now look what it’s come to.

  15. LS, your intellectual contributions to conversations around here leave me in awe. I’m not sure if you know this, but people go to the library to do things besides use a computer. There are these incredible inventions contained in libraries, called ‘books’. They’re made of paper, and they’re full of words and pictures and ideas. They’ve been around for a few thousand years and despite the awesome power of the internet, people continue to enjoy them and find them useful. You might want to check one out sometime. I suspect the kind with mostly pictures is more your pace.

Bon, I’m pretty sure it IS your responsibility to enforce library rules and policies, and kick out people who are obviously causing a disruption to other patrons.

Oh, and OP, I totally agree. I go to the North End Library too and at times, it’s fucking obnoxious. The kids there are yelling, swearing, running around, and the staff do nothing. It’s disgraceful. Kids need to know what the rules are and to be held accountable for their actions. Lately I’ve been seeing so many adults that seem like they’re afraid to even enforce the most minor of boundaries on kids, and I feel like we’re raising a generation of inconsiderate brats. It’s sad, and kind of frightening, really. Whatever happened to respect for others?

  16. meow, get out of here, really, books, whoda thunk it. and three, thanks for that. but if you are on a plane, they frown on laptops anyway tim, and some people hate reading books. yeah i know, kinda funny hey. spend hours a day online, but if they have to read something in hardcopy, forget it.i know people like this.

  17. ngf and pk what planet are you from. you are both fucking idiots. the reason staff dont say anything because it isnt their job. i got to tell bon about this the next time i go the branch she is at.

  18. look at all of this thinly veiled racism. “i blame the parents”,”the kids probably have weapons”. blah blah blah white cunts.
the whole premise that the OP based their bitch on was racist, why didn’t she/he just come out and fucking say it? fucking teen wolf you disgusting coward. if you have something to say it, then dont let your fear of being publicly shamed for being a racist stop you.
also, why is it that many of the responses continue to label groups of people as “problems”. people, and communities are not “problems”, they just are. they are OUR society and we are theirs.
and what kind of bullshit was that, that the OP said about teens at the north end not being held up to the same standard as other teens. what the fuck does that have to do with it? yes, all teens do need to be held to the same standard of acceptable behaviour, as they are all capable pf reachng those expectations and should strive to do so. but when you compare, you are without understanding. the way you just came out about not being held to the same standards was some straight racist bullshit. like what exactly are you implying? are you impliyng that these teens who you say do not behave properly are somehow being cut an unbelievably good deal in life that other teens are not? are you implying that by not holding these teens to the same standard as other teens that someone, or some institution is giving them a leg up in the world? hmmmmmmm, just think about that for a moment.

  19. onetime… come back, you forgot your soapbox.
screw it, I’m going to use it as a kitty castle… take off you hoser.

    and….
“All library branches have had their share of problems such as … patrons masturbating…”

there isn’t porn at any library I can recall… are people this hard up that the erotic novel section or the pictures in the ‘photography’ books are the only time/places to get people off?

ooo baby…. flash that side boob…. ooh yeah…. mmm, bare buttock….. oooo ooooo……

  20. I didn’t mean anything racist in this bitch post. I don’t support the comments with racist overtones. The teens I was bitching about were both black and white. I hope that if my bitch ever got printed they will leave out the part about being in the North End so people won’t assume I’m talking about any race in particular. -Teen wolf
