Argh babies…..those are just evil. Same on planes….the babies go insane and starting screeching. Can’t they come up with a spray that numbs their vocal cords.
Common sense would tell a person to take the crying child out of the library until the child is settled.
Sometimes people are just dumb
Yes, but common sense isn’t so common.
Get a nice hard cover book and smack the little milk guzzler right in the melon, there’s something to make you cry!
The father is dumb but also sounds like one of those parents who feels the world should revolve around him and his kid.
NGF, just because babies cry in public and their parents don’t gather their stuff and make a mad, frantic dash for the nearest exit doesn’t mean they think “the world revolves around them and their babies”! Going anywhere with a baby is not exactly a breeze- it takes a bit of effort to get out the door, so when an errand looks like it’s about to be cut short by a crying baby, sometimes we try to make a last scramble to complete the task as fast as possible before leaving so we don’t lose out all together.
Op, maybe it took the parent few minutes to gather up his or her stuff. Leaving or coming, it does take some time to get yourself and baby organized. It’s a crying baby- not some asshole yaking loudly on a cell phone or some obnoxious teenger loudly slurping and cracking their gum! Get over yourself.
Ten minutes of infant screeching in the library is about 8 minutes too long. Take thy screeching spawn out of earshot of the library. Everybody knows that silence rules in the library! Don’t they?
I’m just supposing here, but I guess crying babies just don’t register with female librarians brains as ‘loud noise’…probably some female nurturing bullshit we men don’t understand ~;)
and i guess you never bawled when you were a baby, lighten the fuck up, kid was either hungry, colicky, shitty, or cutting teeth.
There’s a time and a place for everything Suckulous and the library is not the place for a crying baby. Yes, we all bawled as babies but any intelligent parent would be consciously aware that the library is a quiet zone and removing one’s screeching spawn until they settle down is the only response.

I watched the father with the baby. The baby is screaming and he is browsing the dvds.
Oh well god, if that’s what he was doing then I don’t blame you for complaining! Other people aside, I sure as heck wouldn’t be able to focus on other things- like browsing dvd’s- with a screaming baby (though sometimes I wish I could). And guaranteed, if I were in a library and mine started crying, I’d get out of there asap. I was just saying that ‘asap’ sometimes takes a bit longer for parents than I or other people might like- especially if he’s got a dirty bum, or it’s winter, etc. This guy just sounds like he didn’t give a shit.
I have to disagree with More on the female librarian bit. I’ve worked in two libraries, and believe me, even us mousy librarian-types get miffed when parents are being stupid. The problem is that many of the lower-ranking staff (such as the shelf-stackers and part-time clerks who are actually in the reading areas) aren’t allowed by their contracts to speak directly to patrons – NO MATTER WHAT. 🙁
“female nurturing bullshit” is right…women kill their offspring more often than men
There’s nothing more endearing than people who whisper in a bookstore. You’re an endangered species but I * mouse ears* ya! >: )
The other day at the liquor store an Asian lady’s boy started crying. She didn’t even hesitate in taking the boy out of the store immediately. Why can’t more people be that polite and considerate?
Because more people grow up believing in their rights more than in their responsibilities.
Wow, way to nail it newtohx. That sums up so many people in so few words. If you don’t mind I think I’ll begin using that.
SniperHunter, I’d be honoured. 🙂
I’ve been told any more complaining on my part and my library internet access will be cancelled.
well you can always complain here. we don’t tend to revoke access
