We as citizens of Halifax Regional Municipality should be demanding much more from our Mayor and Councillors. Are we tired of the lack of garbage cans and filth throughout our city? Are we tired of the lack of benches at bus stops not to mention lack of bus shelters? Are we tired of waiting for buses in the rain, sleet, snow, cold and wind? Are we tired of jumping over snow banks to get on or off buses most of the winter? Are we tired of the half assed job the companies the city contracts out to clear our streets and sidewalks of snow and ice do? Well are we? They don’t care about our well being or our safety because they do not have to take these buses and therefore are oblivious to our plights. I propose that everyone who can vote in the upcoming election calls the Mayor and their councilor and demand that they take transit to work a determined amount of days per month as well as Transit management. If not complied with, offenders should be penalized as a deduction on their salary. I think maybe if this should ever happen we would see a remarkable improvement in the clearing of snow and ice. Imagine, seniors with walkers, people in wheelchairs, etc, could actually go outside and take a bus in the winter! Are we tired of the status quo? You bet we are. Let’s do something about it. Things don’t change because we roll over and take whatever they dish out. If enough of us yell long and loud enough, things will change. They have to. —I want to see the Mayor long jump a snow bank this winter

Some of the knobs are going. The newbies are equally knobby. Don’t hold your breath.
I’m voting for Claude. He promised to make public transit free, a bold innovative move that can only improve the commuting experience by opening it up to a more diverse group of the flotsam and jetsam of society.
I just don’t care anymore. Politicians come and go, most of them crookeder than a dog’s back leg. Their mouths are flapping but nothing’s coming out but a blast of hot air.
For the first time in my life I will be spoiling my ballot. For the ballot for mayor, I will be writing in “Neither of these idiots”.
I like the idea that every member of city council must take the bus or walk to work. They could have a car share station at city hall in case they need to go to meetings. It would get them out among their constituents.
Lol, “change”. Change is impossible as long as we have the heavy weight of our crushing debt around our necks. All we have are a bunch of weak willed pussies, too worried about their careers to make actual change.
Where’s my pitchfork…?
I still have yet to understand how someone – on one hand – can sue the city; and on the other – run for its mayor. Is this not a conflict of interest and absolutely fucking stupid?
I would love to see the mayor, councilors, and transit management, squished in between a head banging heavy metal listener with headphones blaring, and a chain smoker who smells enough to make you puke. Welcome to HaHaHalifax transit!
The other day I was on one of the ‘new’ buses, and it was crowded. The first 5-6 feet of the bus didn’t have any bars or hanging things on it, so the crowd in the front had NOTHING to hang on to. Who designs these buses? Who would buy buses like this? Obviously people that don’t take the bus. This city really needs to change it’s views on transit because the car is still glorified and transit is still an afterthought.
