To all the people who continue to complain that a smoker blew a tiny cloud of particulate matter in their general direction from 20 paces in the great outdoors: just for a change, could you please mount a campaign targeting the real addict – the government. “We admitted we were powerless over multimillion-dollar revenues, that our coffers had become unmanageable.” Time for a new higher power. —Just Sayin’

  1. …here in Ontario it’s gonna be hoing and gambling(even more)…TO is gonna be sin city north..

  2. What’s your point? Sounds like a slight variation of the “it’s legal therefore I should be able to smoke whenever and wherever I want” argument.

I don’t really mind smoke that much just don’t blow it in my direction.

  3. So you have the right to smoke but they don’t have the right to complain?

Rights are only good if they work for you?

    Fascist..

  4. “..the government. “We admitted we were powerless over multimillion-dollar revenues, that our coffers had become unmanageable.”

No, cuz see OB, when I hear or read that, I don’t break down into a gasping, wheeze-filled asthmatic fit….with you blowing smoke at me, I do.

  5. And I’m all for legalizing brothels, for the record. Having lived on Windmill road and being in that neighborhood a lot prior to that, I’d rather have the old “massage parlor” back in business that have to drive by the prostitutes every day. Get ’em off the street. I saw some woman on the news say she was against it because she didn’t want her kids exposed to it. I guess she has no problem with the kids in my neighborhood being exposed to it. Stupid suburbanite.

If someone wants to sell their body that’s their business and they should be able to have a safe, secure, clean place to do it, where they don’t run the risk of getting into a stranger’s car, and have access to rehab, tests for diseases and other medical services.

  6. “Time for a new higher power.” And I suppose this “higher power” would be you, OP? lawlz

  7. Hay OB, I think my right to breathe clean air >>>>>>> your right to suck on cancer sticks.

    Enjoy your smoker’s lung!

    Enjoy your chemo!

    Enjoy your slow painful death!

Also: I agree with Thomas re: hookers. HOWEVER, couldn’t one argue that all women are kind of hookers in a way? I mean at least with a prostitute you don’t have to feed her and deal with her in the morning.

  8. i agree o.p., let’s just get them banned completely. then there won’t be any more reason for these anti assholes to spout off, right? but wait a sec, there is no reason to now. cigarette products are legal in this country, and then there are the charter of rights and freedoms, is there not. oh woe is me, some mean old smoker, blew a tiny puff of smoke at me, from 20 feet away. yep, that’ll get gubment to outlaw, or change all their laws and rules real quick.
do me a favour, next time one of them says anything to you, whip your dick out and ask if they’d rather smell that.

  9. Don’t blow it in my direction… another dumb cunt.

Try this experiment. Take two gallons of clear water. Add 1 teaspoon of red food colouring. What happens to the water colour? The same thing that happen when someone blows smoke in your direction. NOTHING!

    Dumb cunt.

  10. Brothels would be good for the good looking ones but the skanky crackwhores will still be walking the street, giving their money to their pimps (but so will the ones in the brothels), and it will do nothing in regards to the underaged ones. Further, there is no guarantee that those in brothels are disease free. Most brothels today may get busted once a year or so, pay their fines and back in business. So the only difference is there will be more taxes paid but not much else will change.

Banning cigarettes will have about the same effect as prohibition. If the government wants to do something, lower the taxes and collect more money. All the higher taxes is doing is increasing the sale of illegal cigarettes and increasing law enforcement. I never heard too much about illegal smokes until they taxed the hell out of the legal ones.

  11. Before that place on windmill closed, Bro Tim, there were no hookers on the street, and these hookers AREN’T good looking.. at all. Like I wouldn’t take money to even touch them.

If they want to walk the street, fine, but they shouldn’t be forced to.

  12. And of course there’s no guarantee they’ll be disease free. I don’t see what that has to do with anything.

  13. Smokers don’t have as much sensitivity to second-hand smoke as non-smokers, that’s why it seems to them that the non-smokers are always overreacting.
I think brothels/prostitution should be legal and subject to the same labour laws as any other business to curtail abuse of the workers. With the intimacy of that type of recreation, there would have to be regular testing for drugs and STDs.

  14. George Carlin said it BEST !

” How can it be illegal to pay for, what you can legally give away for free !?!”

  15. Brothels have a rich history in Halifax, I have read. If they legalize them in Halifax, I know what my next career will be! (don’t be fresh-I meant madam)

  16. we are all madams now xeno, france said so^^george carlin said a lot of *stuff* that was the best

  17. tj, if you are reffering to ada,she was a dear old girl, and well liked by all who met her. cops, judges, lawyers, whoever. all her girls were first class, i don’t ever remember seeing one skank among them. yes, ada and i went back many years, she helped me get my first gun permit to carry a sidearm, for protection of her girls. i used to drive them to and from their appointments. there was very few in house services there. have you ever met her son, no, well he took over in later years. and by the way, all the girls had to have a test for disease every 3 days.
yep, every one of them. she even had little housewifey working for her, part time. and the money was good, none of the girls ever complained, and if they did somehow, she always managed to make it right. her cut was only 30 percent. that was for medicals, drives, protection, and the opportunity to be make a lot of cash. the girls weren’t just hookers, they were what you would name call girls, on call only.see, i know more than i let out, you would br fucking surprised at some of the places i have been, and worked at. and oh yes, i got free ass, if i wanted it, but i had my own female, and she supported what i did. was i a pimp? nope, just a friendly wall of support for them all. and if you tried to hurt or stiff a girl, then you either giot busted up, or a bullit in the head. true story.

  18. But not all madams are/were as classy as Ada. It was because of who she was and how she treated people and her employees that she only got busted now and then. Unfortunately not all brothels are created the same.

Tommy there were always prostitutes in the Windmill/Wyse area, with or without the brothel there. They’re still there today. Not as many but they are there. A lot have gone the “escort” route.

LS, you’re completely right a brothel would never hire common street “girls”.

  19. Where can a smoker smoke these days? A lot of rental leases forbid smoking indoors, and it will get your ass thrown out to smoke in the room or apartment you’re paying an exorbitant price for. Balconies, even the ugly barbed wire ones in Fenwick that look like part of a condemned building, are almost nonexistent. A lot of places forbid smoking not only indoors, but on their extensive outside property, like the universities. Every store you go to says no smoking within 4-5 meters, 25 feet or something ridiculous of the like – 25 feet away is the middle of the street. Sweet Jesus, when we finally find a place we can light up you’d think everyone around us would be in gas masks.
