Let go of the pain of the past year. This is a time of love of our close ones. And for those who’ve hurt us—forgiveness—if only to put our own hearts at peace. And if there’s someone with whom you’ve lost touch or maybe hurt or just want to reach out to—reach out with a word or a note. This is a time when we tell the truth and be joyful. —Troubles Will Be Out of Sight

  1. Go blow a Yak with that cheerful spewing mouth of yours.

“This is a time for…”, so what’s so wrong with the rest of the year?
Are you saying we should resume being cynical and callous starting boxing day?
Cause I know a LOT of shoppers who do that.

  2. I saw the person who hurt me the most this year this evening. My heart skipped a beat but that person didn’t acknowledge or remember me.
    I am that forgettable.

I pray to God next year’s a better year.I’m not an overly religious person but,I need the help.

  3. Nice post! Agree with Zed though, it should be an all year thing.
Hang in there Boru. Have some belief in yourself, take care of you, make you the priority and maybe, just maybe other things will fall into place.

  4. I am guilty of not always showing compassion to those who have hurt the ones I love. I should do better, eventually. I hug my husband and children as much as possible, send notes/call my friends as often as I can. That is what keeps my family and friends close, even though sometimes we are so far away.

  5. GDM Yes it is a nice sentiment.I didn’t feel very nice. 🙂

    Troo.Thanks. 🙂

Whether My views on “treating people the same way I want to be treated” are altruistic, maybe so.I try to be kind and compassionate all year long to everyone especially those I love .This explains the reason I become incensed with those who treat me like dirt.

  6. no way zzz. i got down on my arthritic knees this fall and planted 200 bulbs. so dammit, i have to be around in the spring to see the buggers come up for the deer to eat.

hey merry christmas dude. i am going to say merry christmas on every comment i make until christmas day. i don’t care who i offend. i like the nice parts of christmas. like brussels sprouts.

  7. Yes exactly OP that is why the #1 and only Wogdog has forgiven all the rude remarks sent my way lately. Peace Out.

  8. “like brussels sprouts.” ?
I hate to say it but I’d take a chocolate orange over brussel sprouts any day…
They’re mother nature’s version of HATRED.

  9. Well my rational was that I could cut the chocolate orange with a shit-ton of after eights…
I don’t think I can cut sprouts with anything… they induce vomiting much too much.

  10. mmmmmmmmmm applewood smoked bacon or cheddar. one of the gods’ gifts to mankind. thankyou pd, i was just writing up christmas day menu, some things are always on it, some things are new. applewood smoked bacon is joining the sprouts this year. i have no vegetarians at the table this time. do you roast your sprouts? or steam/boil? drizzled with olive oil and lots of freshly cracked black pepper, roasted then tossed with parmesan is good too.

  11. Brussel Sprouts.
“Vile Weed!” as Newman of Seinfeld would say. He was talking about Broccoli but the term applies here as well.

  12. i harboured much hate for the nasty little cabbages, then one day my magic hands showed me the way, plus the bear loves them. they must be fresh, peel and score the ends. a large pot of salted boiling water. boil them for 3 minutes then ice bath. now you can do what you want with them. i fry bacon and onion, cut the sprouts in half and then roast in the oven, parm is good too. i still prefer mashed taters

  13. Painy That Brussel Sprout recipe sounds delish. Growing up (when we had food) I would eat foods my siblings wouldn’t.I ate a lot of fish or “brain food”,which explains why I’m the only smart one in the family….SCARY EH!! Joking kinda.

  14. Sprouts sauteed with some fresh ground nutmeg is divine!

About the post. Forgiveness… is not easy. If the person who has hurt you doesn’t care about it, does it matter?

Frankly, this Christmas is just about loss and trying to remember the good, the memories of loved ones who passed, ones who still need you. forgiving people who hurt me are way down on the list of priorities. But thanks OP for getting me to think about it.

  15. i think my dislike for sprouts, stems from my childhood. they were always boiled beyond recognition

  16. Every time somebody cooks brussel sprouts I think a sewer line ruptured somewhere. Although I will say your recipe made them sound palatable Painey. Not an easy accomplishment.

  17. I used to wonder how and why people can forgive those who put them through horrific ordeals. It struck me(no pun intended),forgiveness isn’t for the abuser, rapist, murderer, etc. Forgiveness is a GIFT given to yourself.Forgiveness is permission(fig.)allowing yourself to live your life without guilt, without ever wondering about the “what if’s”.

In the new year I’m finally going to put “me” on my priority list.I always felt guilty if I even attempted to do anything nice for myself. That includes looking after my health.
OP I live everyday of the year trying to be kind to others, treating everyone in the same manner I want to be treated.Treating myself in the same manner I want others to treat me, isn’t being hypocritical.

OP Good luck in the New Year.

  18. A light heart is a gift that keeps on giving (bleh, this has been used too much I know). There is one person that has hurt you (or you have hurt) that stays with you. So either forgive the one who hurt you or ask for forgiveness from the one(s) you’ve hurt. Not because it’s Christmas, but because you can.

  19. I can forgive someone I care about who hurt me but, forgiving him still won’t make him care for me the way I wish he would.

Good friends forgive then can move on. Good luck in the new year.Lord knows, I need all the luck the gods can muster.

    A fool is a fool. 🙁

  20. The best thing I ever did was to let go of things that I felt harmed me in the past, it was so very draining.

Every day I snuggle my children and send a note of love to my parents. Puts life in perspective.

Oh and Brussels sprouts are putrid little bundles of horrible.
