Ok, I was on Lower Water Street at 4:30 pm and I wanted to go to Wolfville to share some textbooks with a fellow student and friend. OMG!!! I hit a traffic jam on Lower Water Steet, then I hit another traffic jam on Barrington near the MacDonald bridge, then I hit another traffic jam on the on ramp to the McKay bridge. So I tried to exit onto the Bedford Highway, where I hit another traffic jam. WTF, people!?!?!?! You think this is normal? —The Big Cities Don’t Have to Put Up With This Crap

Too many Cars too few lanes, one accident and your F’d
um, yes ‘big cities’ do, and way more that what you experienced lil’muffin.
“The big cities don’t have to put up with this crap”?
What “big cities” are you referring to OP? Wolfville??
You do realize that you were in the so-called “financial centre” at 4:30 when all these folks leave work at the SAME TIME.
LOL, nah, perhaps ya didn’t know it …… but, ya do now!
Halifax city planning is shiteous! I prob coulda done a better job constructing a street plan using a taco and a marble. (derp, kidding)
“The Big Cities Don’t Have to Put Up With This Crap” … … not real.

the big cities don’t etc

(looks toward Toronto, blinks twice, looks back at OB)
O, RLY?
Wp
How long have you been driving in HRM OB? This is very normal around afternoon rush hour (4:30) and as was stated above, no where NEAR the traffic that the “big cities” have to put up with.
Have you driven down the Don Valley Parkway in Toronto? Perhaps the 417 Queensway in Ottawa? Maybe the 40 through Montreal? (Just to name a few)
not sure why you took the route passing both bridges which EVERYONE from dartmouth has to use….
I would have taken hollis to the end, barrington turning into inglis, beaufort turning into oxford, jubilee to connaught then either
up to bayers or
take chebucto to mumford to joe howe (or romans)
at least with this route there are only 2-3 left turns to contend with and you’re outta here.
Ooo, Bedford Highway! Bad choice indeed!
You’re going to get this ‘phenomenon’ in any city that was originally designed for Horse drawn carriages, I think.
You sound like Kramer on the episode of Seinfeld where he devises quicker routes for the FDNY, zZz.
THIS could be you:

It’s really Edward Cornwallis’ fault…his urban planning did not account for SUVs, transport trucks and Metro Transit buses….
maybe one day, avast…
I can keep dreaming.
though to be fair, there really is no ‘quick’ way to get around manhattan above ground.
Here, your only quicker option is to be a cabinet member and just take a helicopter, rules be damned.
So you were surprised by rush hour traffic, at *RUSH HOUR*??? Holy Hannah OP, get a grip. It’s like trying to rush a grain of sand through a funnel…it ain’t gonna happen, no matter how hard you try.
I suggest, like many others here, that you do not go to Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa….or really any other major city.
Stay in Wolfville, where the biggest traffic jam in at the Timmies drivethru.
Anybody been caught in the traffic driving by Levis PQ while driving west? Anybody enjoy the roller coaster cab ride from DT Montreal when you have an 8pm flight? You know what time it is.
it really is the OP’s fault for being a peripatetic wanker.
Pick a place!
Wow Op you must be new to driving in rush hour then. Like others already said. Its rush hour and its downtown Halifax to top it off. Everyone is getting off work and wanting to head home. Suck it up and consider this a lesson learned about driving in rush hour in Halifax.
Hay OB:

what the fuk do you expect at 4:30 p.m.? no cars, this is rush hour in the race to get nowhere fast. and why the fuck do they call it rush hour? seems no one is moving at all sometimes. the only rush i can figure, is douches trying to hurry and beat out everyone else. guess what people, it don’t fucking work.
So…by yourself during rush hour…did you, by any chance, look around and notice that 95% of the cars around you only had one person in them also?
Maybe you should try some analytical thinking, little grasshopper…
Nope, never any rush hour traffic in Montreal, Toronto, LA, NYC, Paris, London, etc, etc, etc. Compared to them, Halifax has no traffic roblems. Of course it’s always a pleasure getting on Commercial St in New Minas.
my city back home in ontario was never as bad as the traffic in halifax. The roads here are so narrow it is ridiculous. It takes me almost 40 mins to go from down town halifax to Penhorn plaza on weekdays around 5 pm. It is insane.
4:30 P.M., Lower Water Street. Is there possibly a worse starting point and starting time to get out of Halifax. That said there is no Timmies drive-thru in Wolfville or drive-thrus of any kind.
Bro Tim, yes Commercial st is a joy in New Minas especially if you’re turning left. Any timid driver with their left blinker on will be sitting there from dusk until dawn. The wankers won’t let you in unless they think you’re going ram them.
ride a bicycle.
I have almost 1 million kms of driving experience. I have over 300,000 kms in cities like Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. They all have traffic congestion, but not in the same way that HRM does.
HRM has no freeway that serves the peninsula, and a dysfunctional freeway system that circles the harbor.
The HRM lives in one big circle. Commuters are forced to travel through multiple traffic jams.
