I am sick and tired of all the nonsense surrounding bike lanes in this city/province/country. The fact is that those who need to be confined by them won’t respect them and those who respect the lanes don’t need them. Cyclists who jump the curb, ride through stop signs, don’t signal, ignore most of the rules of the road are not going to wake up, see some lines on the road and all of a sudden become respectful cyclists. Ditto for car drivers. Drivers who are oblivious or hateful toward cyclists on the road are not going to start checking their blind spots for two-wheelers just because there are lines on the road.
Instead of wasting money on expanding roadways and painting superficial lines on the road, try promoting safe driving for all through a media blitz. Try getting cops to issue fines for idiots who ignore the simple rules of the road; those behind the steering wheel and handlebars alike.
We’ve all got a responsibility to share the road and if you’re going to be an idiot, have a whopping fine to learn your lesson. —Bike Me

funny, I don’t see a whole lot of ‘love’ here….
has the bird let one slip through her claws?
perhaps its for the best… the bitchers would eat the OP up
Shit. Changing now.
IAWTC.
Agreed. The cyclists who respect the lines generally respect the rules of the road already. It’s not as if they cycle amock once the lines disappear. And the sidewalk cycler isn’t going to all of a sudden ride between the lines. Waste of money if you ask me.
Ranks up there with the 1-metre law between car and cyclist. Stop making up new laws and just enforce the ones that already exist. If you’re a driver endangering a cyclist or vice versa then you’re ‘dangerous driving’ and breaking the existing law. Derrrrrr.
Good point OP. Those lines mean nothing. Worse yet are the bicycles that take up an entire lane and slowly pedal as if they are taking in the tourist sites. They should be charged with obstruction of traffic.
