I am amazed at the growing number of people posting “wanted” ads for apartments – especially with specific conditions. Do you really expect someone else to provide you with housing? —Me

If there’s a market for it, then why not?
this is a dumbass bitch wtf is wrong with posting a apt. wanted? Maybe don’t smoke crack until AFTER you write a bitch 🙂
why not o.p., if you want a specific place, then you try to find one. sort of like looking for a 2 b.r. apt. in halisucks for a price under 400 dollars a month. you will find one, but it will be the biggest rat and bedbug infested hole around. the only way to get anything is to advertise for it.
I agree with the OP, it comes across as lazy and a bit self entitled. Its kinda has that ” here is my problem, whaddya gonna do about ? ” feeling that a lot Gen Y’er seem to have these days.
I do enjoy a good chuckle though when they are looking for a “nice one bedroom downtown with everything included for 400/month”. I wonder what decade they are living in?
Would you like parking and maid service with that too?
Wanted? There are plenty of places for rent, just look. It’s not that difficult. There are some really great places in HRM for really reasonable rates.
I suppose there is the idea that someone wanting to sublet would come across your post and see if you’re interested….
though the practicality of having other look for you to get you something you want is pretty slim.
Especially when you see ads wanting something like tickets for a concert surrounded by people posting ads to sell their ticket to that very concert.
If it’s something you truly ‘want’ then take the fucking initiative and look for it instead of waiting for someone to just hand it over to ya.
I’m fairly confident that the people posting these want ads are also looking in “for rent” section or whatever it’s called. Just because someone’s posted a want ad doesn’t mean they’re not actively looking as well.
As someone who is apartment hunting, you bet I put up a WANTED ad. And why not? Sure I listed specific conditions, however also stated they are not stonecold requirements, but are things I would prefer. Rest assured, OP, I am not waiting for it to land in my lap. This was another way for me to potentially, actively, find suitable housing.
When I was looking for an apartment, I got a chuckle out of them too, OP. I would always see them asking for the same exact thing that was a couple posts below them, or they’d describe pretty much every single type of apartment. It makes you look lazy, no matter if you are also actively looking. The best are ones like “looking for a bachelor or one bedroom in Highfield for no more than $500 a month”. Can you really not find that in Highfield? I think a 3 bedroom is like 650?! I would say get up off your asses but even if you’re looking online actively, you’re still on your ass so I don’t see how it’s so difficult.
It’s another avenue in a situation where you’re in need of something. More possibilities.
Last year, I looked at a bunch of apartments from ads I found on kijiji. A few were decent, a few sucked and one was REALLY great. Unfortunately, someone else got that one. With just two weeks to go until I have to move, I sucked it up and put up a Wanted ad with the specifications of what I *preferred* (but of course being in a desperate situation, I was absolutely willing to go beyond that at that point).
My ad was responded to and that’s where I sleep today. The best apartment I’ve lived in so far in Halifax in a pretty good location with super awesome landlords.
So, give it a try. Lazy or not, it works!
My only expectation is that the neighbors are courteous and if you have flatmates that they are courteous as well. If you are having a party, tell your flatmates and neighbors in advance. If you are playing “music”, keep
it a t a reasonable volume. I have a house in a quiet area so I don’t have to worry about that. I did however rent a place for a couple of months, and my flatmates decided to have a party without telling me. I was not
amused. I had friends who would always tell their neighbors two weeks in advance that they were having a party and everyone should be like that.
wanted ads for apartments is not the unusual part. the conditions and the expectations if the funny part. i kid you not, someone had wanted. “single mother of 5, needs 2 bedroom apartment, west end only, 500 or less and pet/420 friendly. ” its possible that it was bullshit. but there are a lot of similar ones. just demanding someone to drop the apartment of their dreams on their laps. i think of some of them had the truth like ‘daddys spolied little princess looking for someone to look for her apartment for her’
please don’t give me people are too busy to look for apartments. bullshit. i had 3 jobs. i would 100 hours a week and i found my own apartment. in three days.
