This morning, I exited the Hwy101 onto the Bedford Bypass(1F), I was headed for the magazine. The left lane of the bypass was backed up all the way to the 101, and the right lane was empty. I took the very empty, right lane, and drove all the way up to the merge point. To the motorists that honked at me: No, I will not slow down and come to a complete stop on the 101 until traffic lets me onto the off ramp.
To the 2 motorists that left the left lane in an effort to block me : I’ve seen people jump out of their vehicle to kick the shit out of agressive drivers, If you pull that stunt often enough, it will catch up to you.
To the 30-something lady that gave me the stink eye: You were at the merge point for 2 lanes. Instead of letting me in like you were supposed to, you just about caused an accident when you lurched your car toward the vehicle in front of you. Do you think you accomplished anything? The person behind you let me in. —I Ain’t Wrong, I Ain’t Sorry

I do this everyday coming down to the fairview overpass. People think its a brotherhood move to block passing drivers out, but the reality is, I usually get in right away and am at work much quicker. If people drove in both lanes and merged one for one, it would move beautifully – much like a 4 way traffic light stop goes quicker when its flashing red. Kudos to you!
Actually moron if I sat in line for a half hour and and an entitlest idiot like you did that, I would block your way too. I have seen it many times. It is no different than standing in line for an hour at the bank and someone pushing their way to the front. Usually that would result in getting the shit kicked out of you. This is absolutely no different. Idiot!
meh, under certain circumstances I think it’s totally fine to do this.
Usually it is just dicks that think they are above waiting in traffic and would rather cut people off at the merge point.
Noticed a bit more of this the past 2 days actually. Bus-riders turned new downtown drivers that just don’t have a clue.
Ah and the traffic bitches begin. Now all the haters on buses will be wishing the buses come back sooner so the traffic isn’t as bad.
I think someone that waits in a slow lane chooses to do so because they lack the confidence and skill to merge correctly. I think they are entitled to do this if they want.
But, they are awefully damn smug to think that their actions somehow shuts down or closes the other lane to further traffic.
Oh, and BTW, it is not called ‘cutting off’ of ‘butting infront’ when a person merges at a merge point. Some of you guys making comments should take your head out of your arse.
I love you Great Value – you truly are a great value.
don’t y’all just love a bus strike.
When you see a sign that tells you to merge you effing merge at your first opportunity… You dont pass everyone to try and CUT people off… Its not at all about being a non confident driver its following effin signs! I drive from Joe howe to New bridge every day and nothing makes me more disgusted then when I merge into the the right lane heading towards the bridge because I damn well know the roads and now that if I stay in the left it will take me downtown. Yes there are granted people that do not realize this but trust me after doing this drive for the last 2 years…. people see trucks and buses in the front and there first reaction is to pass them…
I will be and am the one that pulls out and blocks a lane on the 102 when there is contruction so that your ass can wait in line like everyone else… judging from everyone else that follows suit… I am not the only one! I will also be the person that does not let you in because all you need to do is slow down and go behind me but you feel the urge to pass me… I WILL make you miss your exit.
There’s a logical reason for using both lanes right up to the point of the obstruction, it is to save space. If everybody merged way before the actual obstruction you turn a 200 yard traffic jam into a 400 yard one, possibly blocking the last intersection creating even more chaos/traffic jams.
I think that those that form a single line way ahead of the merge point are inconsiderate (through ignorance) of other drivers by creating unnecessarily long back ups.
I will concede that merging at the last second is not polite. However, ‘last second’ is defined by the relative speed of the traffic……in the case of a traffic jam, there is NO speed to the traffic. Everyone should move to the front of the class.
Do you guys want an example of multiple lanes? Think about the halifax harbour bridges….they would suck if everyone lined up in one lane, and the other lanes were expected to stay empty.
