I’ll never understand why someone would react like that. Isn’t it *nice* to be told you’re attractive by someone, even if that someone isn’t attractive in your eyes? This doesn’t excuse someone from being a twit, of course, but we’re talking genuine compliments here.
At Peddler’s complementing someone? Either she was told this a dozen times already by guys trying to dip their cookies in her milk, or you were drunked then you realize.
My question: How can a girl tell when a compliment is genuine? I know I’m not pretty, but some guys tell me I’m pretty anyway, just to be an asshole. So, I have to assume that if a guy tells me I’m pretty (when I know that I’m not) that they’re insulting me to my face.
Molly, I agree that sometimes it is difficult to tell whether a compliment is genuine or not.But don’t be so hard on yourself! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so a compliment might be just that; a compliment!

why can’t someone just genuinely think you’re pretty, without wanting something in return? wait for the guy to do something douchebaggy before you assume he’s a dog….he might just be a nice guy who thinks you’re pretty.
Peddlers? When’s the last time you paid a strange girl a compliment on the street, or at the grocery store? Probably never. It sounds innocent when you’re on the defensive because this girl told you to go fuck yourself, but let’s not try and play innocent Andy. You wanted some and you got denied. I can undersstand why she told you to fuck off. Many girls, regardless of how pretty they are,constantly get hit on, and it gets old. She more than likley thought you were just another sleeze trying to screw her.
