Why is it to adopt a child you have to pretty much jump through hoops of fire ( tests , interviews etc ). But any two jackasses can have their own baby no questions asked. I don’t get it. I know it would be near impossible to implement but I think there should be something done( ie testing ), to weave out the morons out there who are bringing babies into the world when they can’t or don’t want to actually take care of them properly . Especially the pregant moms I see and hear about out there smoking, drinking and using drugs on a regular basis while pregnant. Who knows it may even help decrease the number of deadbeat dads also. I know it’s a fantasy and it will never happen but I just had to vent.

  1. R. A. Heinlein wrote about a world where people had to be licensed to have children. I think I’ll write a Private Member’s Bill for Parliament.

No, wait, no Parliament to present it to right now… Oh well, I tried.

  2. My cousin and her husband waited nine years for a child after they went through all the courses, paperwork, and fees to adopt before they gave up because they’d hit their mid-40s. They are both gainfully employed, own their home, no criminal records, active lifestyles, etc.

My brother and his wife are also going through this process. He’s in forensics and she’s a university administrator. They’ve been told, flat out, that if the are “lucky” they might be able to adopt a child in 4-5 years and this is because they are happy to accept children between 2-9 rather than hold out for a baby.

The system is a mess. After the year of parenting classes, the financial, psychological, and criminal scrutinies, and the fees…oh yes the fees, people should be provided a child. Foster services are overwhelmed and there are a lot of kids who need the loving homes people like them would provide.

I don’t understand the wait either.

  3. Once the child is in the custody of the state the state is acting like the parent and is responsible for the care of the child. If they didn’t scrutinize the potential parents, then they would be handing kids over to the same incompetent parents you are complaining about having kids all willy-nilly.

Not to say the system shouldn’t/couldn’t be streamlined…but it is important to be careful. Look at the mess kids in foster care can end up in…and those foster parents are supposedly trying to be good people who care about kids.

  4. Before I accidentally got pregnant at the age of 21, I was pretty wreckless with my life, but something inside me changed when I found out there was a baby growing inside me. I quit all bad habits and changed my life path completely.
12 Years later, I can’t imagine what my life would be like if some form of government would have taken that from me, or if I would even be alive today.
I realize there are people out there who don’t learn from their mistakes, but what about those of us who do?

  5. Someone, and his group, did try to implement that. They were called Hitler and the Nazis.

  6. and how in the holy hell are you going to list firm criteria to ensure that EVERY child born has fit parents, the criteria used to determine who get licenses?

that would be a legalese nightmare.

  7. china has that law already. i believe you have to pass an exam or something to get a pernit to have a kid. and i think i heard something about another non asian country going the same route. too bad that we don’t have the thech. skill, to invent a machine, to see into the future, of what a person would turn out like, then if they are or will be a fuck up, terminate them there on the spot. ah george orwell, where are you when we need you.

  8. True Fat – but I believe it was just for the “mentally challenged” IE: retards . Canada was quilty of that also .In the case of an unnamed bitcher haha – it mighta been a good thing haha !!

  9. It was for people whose family had a history of disability, illness and even criminal activity. If one person were totally healthy without a criminal record, they could have been sterilized if his or her family had a history of anything.

But when the Nazis did it it was wrong. America was allowed to – according to America. They even made propaganda films about sterilization.

  10. We(well, Alberta and BC) were doing eugenic based sterilization well before WWII too, NGF. Look up Leilani Muir.

  11. “”Someone, and his group, did try to implement that. They were called Hitler and the Nazis.”‘

Nice textbook example of Godwin’s Law…someone says, correctly, that too many folks have children without being properly prepared to care for them, …and suddenly you compare that to Hitler?

See what happens? Suddenly the thread becomes about eugenics and sterilizing conservatives, when really it was making a valid point about adoption vs breeding…

  12. What we really need is this pill I was talking about in another thread that makes people less horny! Imagine how many problems in the world it would solve, seriously…

  13. or we could accept that humans are sexual creatures and we could try to NOT repress sexuality, causing all sorts of fucked up sexual-social dysfunctions. But oh, god, no, wouldn’t want to be fucking logical.
