  1. “I expected the roads to be plowed, salted and ready for the morning traffic.”So, how long have you lived in Halifax?

  2. It’s going on 29 years and for almost 25 of those years we were able and allowed to park on the streets and plows still managed to have the snow cleared and the roads salted. So now in the last four years of having this parking law in effect nothing has gotten better or improved. My point being it is just another regulation government found a way to make money off the tax payers. I for one am disappointed.

  4. i wouldn’t say that the plough operators are lazy … i wouldn’t want their job, that’s for sure … out in the nasty weather in a huge machine, and getting bitched at when their shift is over.things could have been worse. with school out for the holidays, and many people off this week for christmas, there was a lot less traffic and probably less of a panic to get things done for the people in charge. things were still slippery when i headed to work at 11am … but there was a pretty thick layer of ice on some streets, and salt isn’t magic. it takes time to clean up from a storm, especially when hurricane force winds are blowing snow back into the street 5 seconds after it is cleared.

  5. What a douche. ” The government gives out tickets and are make money well where the hell is that money going…certinatly not back into the road.”Correct. Here’s a homework assignment for you: research and write a paper on where municipal/provincial fees/fines/taxes are collected to and compare them to where municipal/provincial funds are distributed. Provide references. All of this information should be publicly accessible. Due next Thursday.

  6. Your point being “cranky” ? The roads should have been plowed more then one strip up the road. I for one agree the roads could have been in better shape and when salt doesn’t work there are sand truck too. I wouldn’t want there job either but if I was doing it I would take some pride in my work, and do a clean job. But we’ll see how the rest of the winter goes. Here’s to positive thinking….

  7. Maybe they do one strip to allow emergency vehicles access to more territory. We only own so many snowplows so they get more done by doing a quick strip than they would making each street sqeaky clean. Maybe write your MLA or councilor and ask them to spend less money on one thing and more on plowing the city streets?

  8. They probably plow one strip so they can give as many streets at least some access as possible, then return. And I’m sure the massive blizzard with winds strong enough to blow over transport trucks and massive power outages didn’t put a dent in any of that. And damn those lazy fuckers who have to go out into hazardous driving conditions with idiots yelling at them, driving in their blind spots and trying to pass in whiteouts.Don’t forget the city mechanics who have to go out into the same conditions and fix them if they break down, I bet their work ethic is shitty too.And while we’re at it, let’s pick on the linesmen who didn’t have my power on RIGHT THE FUCK AWAY. I’m sure it’s all a plan to piss you off, you asshole.

  9. Ok, the thing is this, the City sub contracts out a lot of plowing to smaller companies with smaller trucks. I have a Permacrete guy that does my rd. With a half ton. With a shit load of snow, he can sometimes only clear one width. He’s got a tonne of other streets to do and the truck has to last. Second, I was out this morning as well, from Tantallon to downtown Halifax to Bedford. Aside from the obvious bit of ice, the important roads were cleared pretty well, concidering the wind and crap that went on for the last two days. Although I do agree there could have been a little salt laid down…but no biggie, just take it easy on the road. The plow drivers are putting themselves at risk going out in these conditions, so that you can actually get out of your home, or an emergency vehicle can get in. If the drivers on the road are assholes and cannot share the rds and drive safe, that’s not the fault of the plow drivers. If people are too stupid or too lazy to move their cars, that’s not the fault of the plow drivers. There are ALOT of rds and streets and driveways and parking lots in the city…which is NOT just Halifax. It is all of HRM. I say to those that think they could do better, get a plow. Contact the city. Get a contract. Then come back here to listen to everyone bitch about the shitty job you did. And funny how the narrow streets are never a problem, but when the snow makes a street narrow, it is the end of the world…it’s only for a couple of months out of the year. I also think that if they are going to enforce this parking ban so drastically, by ticketing and towing everyone, then they should enforce their parking rules every other part of the year. Ticket AND tow ALL illegally parked vehicles. I drove by a car parked in the snowbank on the side of the road with three tickets sitting on the windshield….why is the car still there??? Why has it not been towed??? I think if HRM enforced their parking laws a little more, the winter parking ban wouldn’t get as much grief. and for that matter really wouldn’t be needed. We’d all already be trained to park in the proper places, and move our vehicles at the proper times. Alot of laws and by laws are nothing new. It’s the renewed enforcement that people do not seem to like. Make all the laws you want…just please don’t enforce them….ha.

  10. So tell me why is it then the roads are still not plowed and widened, salted and sanded. There is no excuss. 2 days have gone by and still no improvment…

  11. Bitch is taking the day offHey all, I’m having problems accessing the admin functions remotely, so this Christmas Day there won’t be any new bitches posted. I hope to get back on tomorrow, and all will be back to normal. Sorry for the inconvienence. And, ho, ho, ho, or whatever your version of it is.
