Last summer I worked in a place with a lot of students and had to listen to the endless “partying” stories. How much you drank last night, all the older men who hit on you, the “ugly” (although probably decent) guy you convinced to buy you drinks and then treated like a stalker when he thought you’d actually lower yourself to hang out with him for one song. Any yes, I get it, you’re ultra-scene and in control of your sexuality because you wake up in filthy coke-dens with no idea what happened or with who.
I thought all this would change when I took on a job in a more professional environment. Everyone is around 21-26 and it’s the same lame conversation: what we drank where, how much of it, how much we spent, how much we puked, and how “hot” the guy/girl we fucked was.
I’m not a tightass, I enjoy drinking on a social level (and who hates sex?!), but why do I feel so alone because I want to settle down and think about my future at 24? I did my fair share of crazy shit, so it’s not like I’m lacking life experience. Am I alone in the belief that there’s something wrong with someone in their mid 20’s who gets loaded drunk 4-5 times a week??

Not just you..I feel we have a real social problem (to the benefit of club profiteers) that these people have to be not only drinking or even drunk – but blind-stinking-drunk 3-5 times a week to consider themselves having fun.Combine that with dollar drinks, and a very young population (due to the many schools) and you have a ridiculously high per-capita rate of violence.I live downtown, and every Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sunday night I hear/see the scrum waltzing down the middle of the streets tearing down signs/saplings, flipping mailboxes, throwing bottles etc etc.Being 25, I’m far more concerned about my career, relationships, and how I function in society, than how much I drank, snorted or f*cked.
Amen. Someone had to say this. Its especially bad if you don’t drink or drug, hate nightclubs, hipster parties and are trying to find a mate. Living for friday night drunkfests is so lame. Get a life you useless pricks.
Where do you work? I enjoy partying on the weekend and feel like I am the only one at my work. Let’s switch jobs!
I had to laugh a little at this bitch, because i feel a bit like the black sheep at work sometimes. I’m the youngest in my department by about 20 years, and the only one who’s not married or divorced. All of the women here think that i’m a party animal, and that i go crazy on the weekends, perhaps because i mentioned to one of them that i had a party to go to one weekend, or maybe because a few of them have me on facebook, and they’ve seen a drunken photo or two. I can’t think of any other reason they’d come to that assumption, but it’s funny to think that they even discuss what a ‘crazy party animal’ i am. Really, i think i’m the only one here with a social life that doesn’t involve scrapbooking and worrying about what the young girl in the office is doing this weekend. It’s sad, but i’ve learned to have a bit of fun with how naive they can be.
