I’m sorry, but are HRM civil engineers trained in kindergarten these days? The Larry Uteck exit has a round-about at each of the exit/on-ramps connecting into the 102! What idiot came up with this deathtrap idea? —Baffled Motorist

Just wait til Moncton “steals” that , too
I hate our citys engineers.
I &hearts Sheldon.
Probably the same Band of Morons that are going to dump another 8 million into making the Bayers Lake Industrial Shopping Centre more accessible to Clayton Park, duh.
Do a little research yourself on highway design and safety yourself (especially where roundsabouts are concerned). It’s not our fault that idiots like yourself can’t understand how traffic interacts.
By the way NSTIR designed this, not HRM.
those roundabouts are popping up everywhere….
even leading into New Minas FFS. took me by complete surprise.
I, personally, can’t wait for the new bayers entrance.
home to imax in under 3 mins? saweeet.
I drive by that exit daily, but I see very few people taking it. Where does it go?
The roundabout thing is old news anyway. There was a big to-do about it when it was proposed. North America is embracing the round-about, get used to it.
The one in New Minas looks like its going to be a permanent traffic jam morning , noon & night.
I don’t know what the ‘larry uteck’ is ????
Are you talking about exit 9 of the 102 ?
AHAHA a round about going into New Minas.
I haven’t been down to New Minas since…2005. Oh GOD.
At least they fixed the 8A hantsport exit. THAT was a death trap — intersection on a highway that connects a major side road? Great idea, boneheads.
Also: there should be an exit between grand pre and greenwich into wolfville.
Now I’m all homesick for ‘vegas 🙁
there’s a new exit between kearney and hammonds plains on 102.
It’s so elusive, even google doesn’t know about it yet.
the new minas one is right as you’re getting to the good ‘ol mall from wolfville… and is a huge pain.
I always knew wolfville was good for their smoke because someone was soaring high in the sky thinking that was a good idea.
Too bad people don’t realize that roundabouts are actually awesome. They keep traffic flowing at an even rate, favor heavier volume directions (so no extra extra long light waits) and reduce vehicle idle time. Get used to it and lrn2drive. PS: for those that care, that new exit is basically another (faster) connection from the bedford highway to the 102, with commercial and residential development exploding. 4 years and that area’s gonna look like a cookie-cutter high end suburb with endless stretches of brick faced houses.
And the city didnt design that interchange, ya derpderp.
looks like you’re the one with a kindergarden education
OOOH, is it a new exit, zZz or a modification of the greenwich exit?
I really need to get down to the Valley a lot more than I do. Since the ‘rents moved back to haliwood, I haven’t had a definite reason to go down and it’s looking like next time may be in May when my bff gets married.
I don’t think there’s any new exits in Wolfville/New Minas area. The roundabout is just kind of right in the middle of the #1 highway.
don’t talk about the utecks like that, you might get in trouble, like a certain fair haired boy of one particular person with that last name.hmmmmm.
Roundabouts are great for cars, but death-traps for pedestrians. They should never be built in the city, no matter how stylish they may be this year. Anyway, all these zillions spent on new interchanges around HRM are a fucking waste. The demand for these things stems from the suburban sprawl that springs up when they build them in the first place.
“The $2,521,600 tender for the current roundabout was awarded to Dexter Construction Sept. 9 and preparation of the site began soon thereafter. Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal project engineer Jeremy Kelland says, primarily, Dexter’s Valley division out of Kentville is handling construction. Traffic was detoured to the south beginning Oct. 4.”
yep, that makes sense why they put it in now…
