I had the same problem with a company that has big blue signs everywhere and a 1 800 number to call. I got HCAP involved and got results. I even got out of my lease early to move to a better place! Best of luck to you it sucks to be a slumlord here in halifax and even worse to rent from one!
At least you won’t sit idle and ACCEPT it.

I too am in a situation where my rental company has been promising me for 4 yrs to FIX things in my apartment I am in a “Property” owned by Greedy Landlords, It just “Kills” me what they get away with. I was paying around the 600 mark yrs ago when I moved in then a new Property company bought the building I am in. The rent went up 50.00 a month EVERY year. My carpets have holes in them, my fridge has NO racks on the door, they FELL OFF..My freezer has no racks on the door, it fell off. My stove is broken, I need a hammer and a pair of plyers to get my shower to come on.. My apartment needs paint…balcony is in desperate need of paint and whenI asked them to replace my bathroom door with a new one because the onld one had holes in it from the previous tenants, they brought me a DIRTY white USED door, telling me that they are trying to keep costs down. I’m all for keeping costs down, but if your coming and raising my rent EACH year, the least you can do is bring me a NEW BATHROOM DOOR! This year my rent did not go up 50.00 a month, it went up 40.00 a month PLUS 25.00 a MONTH for an OUTDOOR parking spot in a parking lot so small I cannot open my car door to even life out groceries and I had my car stero stolen from this LOVELY parking spot that they want 25.00 a month for!! The “cow” above me brings her drunk friends over and they accidentaly drop beer on MY balcony, once is an accident…3 times is NOT! Hey boyfriend threw up all over the stair way etc and the property owners did NOTHING.They just fill up the apartments with whatever loser is around at the time, they arent concerned about the quality of people they put in or the quality of your apartment, they know that when you move out, some other sucker will move in and pay them rent.There used to be a rental law that wouldnt allow these Killer Property owners to take advantage of people like us..there used to be a limit on the rental increase but there is NO longer a law protecting the tenant, why? these companies step into our cities, they buy ALL the aprtments they can buy..and raise the rent to a level that is JUST NOT AFFORDABLE, but it doesn’t end there, they are now buying trailor parks and storage sheds, where does it end? WHo will protect the little people who work their ass off?
