What is wrong with you assholes in Halifax ?
I had the misfortune to have to go to the peninsula today ( I know, feel sorry for me, I deserve some sympathy)… I came in around the basin & when you top the hill on the 102 & can see Halifax there are several short on ramps. THEY HAVE YIELD SIGNS & THEY”RE NOT FOR THE PEOPLE ON THE HIGHWAY! What do you think your bloody well doing ? I do not have to pull over to the outside lane to let you in, I do not have to slow down or stop either, YOU HAVE TO YIELD TO MY RIGHT OF WAY !
To the idiot coming down the ramp by Scotia Square bridge bound, I am not going to stop & let you on the damn road… that little triangular sign is for you to obey, not me.
YOU HAVE TO Y I E L D!!! IF I had of moved into the outside lane, I would have creamed the guy on the motorcycle right beside me. Finally to the idiot in Dartmouth coming down the Portland street ramp onto the Circ, I am not going to stop for you, blowing your horn trying to push my truck out of your way won’t work…blowing your horn while screaming at me today changed nothing, I am intelligent enough to realise I cannot move the 18 wheeler in the outside lane out of my way just so you can merge with the highway traffic…if you can’t get out, YOU HAVE TO SLOW THE FUCK DOWN OR MAYBE STOP ! ! ! That isn’t my fault…its the rules of the DAMN ROAD & you people really need to learn them!
I need a drink & its no where near 5 yet! (& yes i know its 5 o’clock somewhere,it just isn’t where I am right now.)—More

people cannot understand road signs unless it’s flashing neon: stripper’s ahead or cold beer
you’re a control freak and a horrible driver. you may have the right-of-way, but it’s well accepted that you should move over to let people on the highway — what’re they supposed to do otherwise, stop when their lane runs out and jump into an opening in traffic at 20kph?
it’s “if I had moved”, not “if I had of moved” — you can’t drive and you can’t write so please go away
OOOOR….get this!! if you KNOW there is a yeild coming up, and you KNOW that people are going to be coming on the on-ramp, you COULD be a nice person and if SAFE to do so, just MOVE THE FUCK OVER AND GET OVER YOURSELF!! do you own the fucking road? no! nor do i. but one thing that courses through my veins is the decency to TRY and be a courteous driver. do you have to be a dickhead no, but you can safely allow others to come onto the ramp and stop being a fucking bully on the road “OOOOH THE POWER!!”
Actually the OP is correct in refusing to move to the left lane if he’s driving a commercial vehicle. Studies show that every lane change in heavy traffic by a large and often slower moving commercial vehicle can increase the chance of a preventable accident by more than 30%. An employer’s loss prevention department can terminate a person’s employment over such incidents.
The traffic that has the yield sign has the responsability to adjust their speed to allow for safe entry onto the highway. If that means coming to a crawl before being able to get into the next lane then so be it. But bullying someone because they have the right of way is just plain dumb.
OP wasnt driving the Rig. but he kinda made himself sound like a liar, at first it was a motorcycle that he could have hit, then it became an 18 wheeler. where they conjoined at the bumper? a motorcycle/18 wheeler hybrid? pray tell!!
ha then i re-read lol, the 18 wheeler was a different incident…but sounds like the guy goes out of his way to look for these incidents to happen by the sounds of it.
OMF some of you people need to go back to school. Read the OP again, he couldn’t change lanes because of other traffic. I see this all the time around Halifax and it drives me crazy too. Learn to drive or get off the road before you cause someone else to get hurt. You don’t have to “look for these incidents to happen” in Halifax, they are common enough because of asshats who think everyone needs to make room for them.
leather, if you know the area has an onramp, WHY cant you be proactive and when SAFE, be courteous and accomodating to other drivers. HUH? why. why cant you be courteous. when it isnt safe i dont move over, when it is, i do. got a fucking problem with that? jeez, maybe by me doing it safely or ahead of time, we avoid these problems. and you dont have to be a dickhead road rager later on up the road now do you? FUCK SAKES!!
Listen Calvin I’d tell you to take a long hard suck on my back passage…but you probably enjoy that ! What you seem to miss , is that BOTH FUCKING LANES WERE FULL OF TRAFFIC…What Am I suppose to Do ??? Pull into the other lane & cause an accident ? Kill some poor bastard on a motorcycle in downtown Halifx ? I may not be much of a writer, but your obviously an asshole, that doesn’t know how to drive, nor do you know the rules of the road or what TRAFFIC SIGNS ARE FOR !. If I can pull out to the outside lane I’m happy to do so. But when traffic is really congested & BOTH FUCKING LANES HAVE VEHICLES GOING 90k +, & the outside lane is actually passing you…please give all of us here your wisdom on exactly how you move over when an 18 wheeler (It could have had more, I didn’t count) is right beside you ?
I, as well as others are patiently waitng for just how one accomplishes that maneuver .
CUja12…the first incident was during the morning rush…ther was no place to go, it was passenger vehicles speeding by me in the outside lane, we weren’t quite bumper to bumper at 90k, but is wasn’t far from that. THen the Downtown Halifax ramps by Scotia Square had a bike right beside me, If I jam on my brakes & get rear ended , it unlike what many think , becomes my fault. Drivers do not have to stop for merging vehicles…then the Circ incident all in one day was just too fucking much !
I was driving a 3/4 ton truck pulling a trailer & in the first incident I was loaded, those of you who think your being nice to a driver coming down a ramp by slaming on the brakes are actually endangering the people directly behind you who also have the “right of way”, but you along with several other repliers, & a shit load of Halifax drivers… obviously don’t know SFA about the rules of the road, right of way or what posted signage is there for.
more, buddy, don;’t forget where you are, you’re in n.s. remember. land of the ignorant and untrained drivers. how the fuck some of these people get a license is just fucking beyond me. i wish i was a cop, for just one day, and have a tractor trailor load of ticket books. i would have them filled in an 8 hour shift. i used to love driver rig, you wanna play chicken, go fucking for it. me and 20 plus tos of steel rails says you won’t win. then you have dolts, who have lived and driven here, over half their lives, and still don’t know how to fucking drive. makes me wanna get another mack.
Poor drivers are not exclusive to Nova Scotia Life Sucks. Ignorant and untrained drivers abound everywhere. My favourites are the ones who think that their car trumps my motorcycle and just decide to drive right past me in my lane forcing me from the middle of my lane to the shoulder. It’s happened to me more than once in this and another province.
Cuja,,,again,,go back to school and learn how to fucking read. The left lane had OTHER traffic in it, he couldn’t move into the left lane. There is such thing as being nice and moving over, WHEN IT”S SAFE. The fact that asshat drivers here in N.S. don’t know how to read the road signs is a huge problem. Why can’t people get that through their heads? If you don’t know how to drive stay the fuck off the roads, or get your ass run over. Common courtousy doesn’t take the place of safety, my insurance company isn’t going to cover acts of random kindness for fuck sakes. Get over yourself and learn how to drive.
Notice how Cuja hasn’t come back to reply after realizing his asshat comments make no sense. First and foremost, the yielding driver does have to YIELD. Yes, if possible, the oncoming driver can get in the left lane to accomodate, but if he or she can’t or doesn’t want to (because according to the rules, they don’t have to), then the yielding driver has to stay put. Cuja, don’t fucking criminalize the oncoming drivers, it’s idiots like you that probably cause most of the accidents in this city.
I just got my ass chewed yesterday by the gf for my road rage after someone impeded my merge in those “ramp” lanes out in front of Dartmouth Crossing, the ones that crisscross. In this particular case I think my road rage was righteous, although I ought not to have succumbed to it – the driver I was supposed to yield to kept on speeding up to keep me in my lane, so I finally had to brake rather sharply.
I agree with a mix of what almost everyone is saying, including the OP. In general the burden of observing traffic to be merged into is that of the merging driver…they have to make *most* of the adjustments. And most drivers don’t do that, hence the OP’s point. But it’s also common courtesy that, as much as is reasonably possible, the drivers in the lanes to be merged into should make some adjustments…which, again, most drivers don’t.
I don’t myself think most drivers, that being the incompetent group, are assholes – I just think they are overwhelmed and shouldn’t be driving. I’ve had quite a few people tell me candidly, in one-on-one casual conversation, that any number of traffic situations in HRM make them uncomfortable and nervous. I don’t tell those people this, but about the last thing I want on the roads is scared people – they are as dangerous as reckless drivers. And who hasn’t seen all the drivers who can’t possibly be situationally aware, seeing as how they are always staring ahead with a fixed blank look on their faces?
So perhaps solution #1 is to have follow-on routine driver tests, maybe once every 5 years. And make these seriously realistic tests.
Something else to explore is firing all the traffic engineers we’ve got – there are way too many insane short crossover merge situations in HRM that exacerbate the problem.
some folks should not drive. never ever. thinking your vehicle is a weapon is not good
I really shouldn’t have been so pissey sounding in my bitch…but man I was shaking after the close call on the circ ! I couldn’t even see the paint of the car to my left coming down the on ramp, that’s how close we were, he was literally nearly touching the passenger side of my truck & I was over as far as I could go toward the 18 wheeler which was in the outside lane beside me !
He was on the horn & when I glanced over I realised just how close he was…& he was almost out of ramp & there was absolutely no where for me to go ! How we didn’t collide, I have no idea but it sure was close.
Today I had to take some gear to Halifax & coming down the same stretch of road into the city at the same place cars were coming down the ramp (3 of them) & I was alone on the highway I pulled over to the outside lane no problem, I don’t think I own the road, I certainly don’t try to “push my weight around” I just want to be able to safely go about my business & weaving in & out of traffic isn’t safe & there are established rules ,everyone who drives is suppose to know. But for some reason getting to the next light or the next stop sign 3 or 4 seconds faster ,is a reason for some people to take incredible risks, which IMO aren’t warranted & should never even take place !
Share The Road People, We’ve all helped pay for it & a couple of seconds “probably” will not kill you. A major multiple car/truck pile up…your chances of coming out unscathed are somewhat lessened IMO.
