So, I purchased a ticket to a downtown bar for New Year’s to show up for about an hour or two and I was having an alright time until I went to get some jackets from coat check. I returned to my table of friends and realized there were too many jackets given to me. Before I could go return them a bouncer had pushed through the crowd raising his voice telling me I was a thief and I needed to get out. I was confused and obviously had been given back too many jackets… he continued to try to embarrass me and as I was leaving he then told me I wasn’t allowed to leave with any of the jackets… not even my own. Dressed in my New Year’s attire I left the club without a jacket and froze my ass off outside for 30 minutes while the bouncer just stood and watched me. My phone was dead and I had no way of getting a hold of anyone with me. I asked if I could or if he could get one of my friends from the table so they could help explain my situation. He said no. I had no choice but to walk to my closest friend’s house. I am still jacket-less and not very pleased… to the asshole bouncer that kicked me out… why would I try to steal a man’s jacket that was ugly as anything? Why would you kick a girl out on New Year’s in the freezing cold by herself downtown where all kinds of creeps are? Happy New Year’s to you too… jerk. —Dubbbzzz

  1. because halifax has no laws that require bars to have TRAINED OR PROFESSIONAL staff, which has lead to many majors problems like abuse, and attempted murder..of course the province will only REACT if something truly bad happens and it will…a great bouncer will NEVER touch or throw a patron out,he or she talks them outside and let the police handle the situation….thats why i and many of my friends never enter the bars in halifax ,as the bouncers are very dumb and reactionary….

  2. And if you stayed off your phone instead of using it 24/7 without recharging, you would have had power to call a friend.

  3. If your group was about to leave anyway, what with the going to the coat check and all that… why didn’t your friends leave with you… what paingirl said… They seriously didn’t try to stand up for you or anything? Shitty friends.

  4. OB,no way would I go leave without my property. My response would have been “yes please, call the cops”. Don’t bow down to bullies,if they put their hands on you, it’a assault.

Did you get your coat? Did you go back and complain to the owners? Did you call the police?

  5. I agree with Hfxmentor and snoop and Painy…shitty bouncer and shittier friends!

  6. I must agree with others that one: you should have called the cops inside, and two: your friends are not very protective of you. Never go drinking without a friend or two who would have your back no matter what.

  7. by the sounds of this, all the creeps weren’t on the streets, some work the bars. lesson to be learned here o.p., stay the fuck home next time, or go and keep your coat close by. fuck the coat checks. there is no law that says that you have to check it.go to bars owners, tell them the story, and threaten to sue their motherfucking asses off, if they don’t get rid of bullyboy. or threaten to make a boycott of said shithole.also write review here in coast about lousy experience.

  8. Wait, was it a “self serve” coat check? Did he think you jumped over the counter and grabbed a bunch of coats? What a stupid monkey.

  9. The bouncers downtown do not give a crap whether you’re male or female. Well….unless you’re an extremely hot, incredibly skanky female. Emphasis on “skanky”.
I remember one night, i was getting hit on outside by the door by a very skeezy guy, and was trying to get away. The bouncers stood there, laughed, and tried to push me into the jerk.

  10. I don’t understand how this could be the OP’s fault. Wouldn’t there have been someone at the coat check who handed him the coats? It’s pretty fucked up he got blamed AND got thrown out in the cold without his coat.

  11. My daughter got kicked out one cold winter night without her jacket, as well. Only, they couldn’t find it, and when she insisted they looked harder, they told her she would have to wait until close to see what was left. She got kicked out when she got angry–she got barred for a year too. That was 4 years ago…still haven’t got a call back from management.

  12. More bouncer horseshit.

Once again I ask: is there any way to give us a clue as to which bar you’re talking about?

I have the feeling a lot of these complaints originate from a relatively few bars, and I think I know which ones.

If this happened to my daughter I’d call the owner(s). After all, who wants a ‘roid freak’ on the payroll? Everyone knows that roids make people somewhat psychotic.
