Listen, from time to time I too have forgotten my keys and have been locked out. However, making this a weekly occurrence is not good roommate etiquette and is bothersome for both you and myself.
Also, not locking the door when you leave and I am not home either is not appreciated. I have things that cost money and do not have the money to buy renter’s insurance just because you are too lazy to lock the door and carry a key. Just lock the door and hide the key somewhere, it is better than nothing.—Roommate with shit people would steal

Tenants insurance is like $13/month. I recommend it.
Yeah that’s not smart OP… get insurance.
I’d get it especially because of your roommate. Maybe you could risk it if you were both responsible but it’s just a matter of time with a roommate like that.
locking yourselves out from time to time, is somethng that we all will go thru, and a fact of life. get over it. but if they consistantly choose to ignor simple roomie rules, then time for a new roomie.
I bet I know who this chick is… Does she crawl in and out of her bedroom window as opposed to using the door? Does she put somethign in the microwave and forget about it for days? Shudder.
My building requires its tenants to have insurance.
It’s like 15 bucks a month or something. If you can afford to have “shit people would steal” I’m sure you can afford 50 cents a day.
Get the Insurance! What happens if your thoughtless roomate leaves something on the stove burning?
This shit drives me nuts too. My roommate consistently does NOT have his keys, it drives me up the wall. He also leaves the door unlocked regularly. BUT, I am fortunate enough to have insurance XD
Tenants insurance is cheap. It should be required by all landlords.
At my place, if we forget our keys, the landlord charges us $25 to come and deal with it right away, and $50 on weekends. Also, tenants insurance is like cheapest insurance I’ve seen. I only paid something like $110 for my 17 months. I definitely think you should get it!
FYI- check your coverage (ie: read the fine print) on your insurance – tenant or otherwise.
Your insurance company can deny coverage if you left your door unlocked and someone stole your stuff… So as cheap as it is, make sure it actually covers what you think it does.
i am always losing my keys. i go out the door that locks behind me and then wait until someone else is going in. but always make sure it’s locked up.
also, get insurance, dude.
melectric: my landlord charges the same.
My dad has a nasty habit of not locking his door and then going to have a nap. Or he’ll leave the patio door open. And then my mom’ll come home and have a shit fit because “anyone could jsut walk right in and steal [her] huge ass plasma.”
It always surprises me how many people don’t lock their doors, especially when they live in apartment buildings. Like, they’ll go to the laundry room or to get the mail and not lock their doors thinking their neighbours wouldn’t rob them. Then they cry “why me” when their shit gets stolen.
And, it’s ridiculously easy to get into a secure building without a key to the front door. I see nimrods letting randoms into my building all the time ffs.
I’m getting tired of this new E-word ‘etiquette’.
the guy is irresponsable and doesn’t give a shit; kick his ass out !
