The crap you must have to put up with as a bus driver…and seeing as how you don’t say anything to the people with the phony transfers shows you’re a nice one too. When overhearing him brag, I’d have been tempted call out something to him along the lines of “Hey the only reason I ignored your phony transfer was that when I saw your face I assumed you were mentally challenged ands thougth I’d give you a break!” I probably wouldn’t have, but it would have been tempting!
Hurray for not caring about your job!
Just like this transit worker
http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/ttc/articl…
My Aunt was transiting between terminals at Pearson and caught a security guard in the same pose. It was December 22, 2001.
Hey Matt,
Doesnt mean I dont care about my job, it means I want to go home to my wife and kids at the end of the day. I’d rather that then get my head smashed in over a transfer(peice of news print). Thanks
Then get a different job.
If you’re choosing not to do a part of your job for fear of violence, then you should call the cops.
I think the supervisors should be more like transit police to back up and support the drivers.
There’s this old woman who travels the 4 around 11:50-ish who collects transfers for some reason. I’ve seen her pick up transfers off the bus floor, inspect them to see what the expiry date was and then flatten them out with her pile of god knows how many transfers. She usually sits at the front of the bus and will throw little pieces of garbage (candy wrappers and such) on the floor when she’s done with them.
I agree with you OP . Why fuckin argue over a transfer . And you don’t own the bus so really who cares !! Atleast on your bus – they get a free ride !! ML – In Calgary – you don’t fuck with the transit / ctrain operators – the transit cops here will take you off and out tazered and pepper sprayed . They don’t fuck around here and theres plenty of em . HRM should have the same police system for they’re transit – would solve alot of bullshit .
do all bus drivers do this?
I’d use public transit more if it were free… 🙂
I know a guy who used to drive the bus who said he didn’t give a shit how much people put in the fare box as long as he heard something go in.
And no, not all drivers do this, zZz. I’ve been harassed before over my transfer when it’s been perfectly valid. One driver actually made me come to the front of the bus from the back to show him my transfer where he proceeded to inspect it. I had another 45 minutes on it ffs.
So no, not all drivers do this (though I have found that if you’re not a teenage male you’re much likelier to get away with using an expired transfer).
maybe it’s the uniform that goes to their heads?.. well, some of them.
oh and hog, if you’ve ever seen a transit cop on a city bus it’s because he’s on his way to work. Transit cops work the LRT where people are not necessarily monitored buying a ticket… and that’s all. There is no place in NS for a transit cop to work. Besides, the bus driver is there to collect the fare (if they feel like it).
I know exactly where the OP is coming from. A young girl once threatened to smash my head into the steering wheel for questioning her week old transfer…. It was the last day I ever took a second look one. Matthew Luthor, it is not as simple as calling the police, the damage is long over by the time they arrive.
I love “fony” transfers. They’re the best.
Hey matt, where do you work???
I love you bus driver.
i much prefer seeing some kid get busted using a month old transfer. or lying to people who ask me what color transfers are today.
Where I work people go totally fucking apeshit all the time and come at you with anything sharp they can get.
Not City Hall
“Not City Hall”
Maybe the provincial government level then?
hairdresser/chef?
Ha PG!
I agree with this post, as far as why should the driver have to deal with punks that don’t want to pay? He’s a professional driver, not a toll booth attendant.
That paradigm was fine 20-30 years ago. When I was a kid, I wouldn’t dream of boarding the bus without change…but these days it’s a whole different story.
My bud drives for Coast Mountain (Vancouver) buses, and he says people get on downtown and just say “got no money man”, or they poor a few loose coins in, pennies maybe…he just ignores them…what’s he gonna do, get shanked with a dirty needle for 2 bucks?! Get swarmed by a hoard of hairy-pitted wymmen on their way to Main street for a fiver?
Instead, what they do now is they have the odd ‘fare inspector” dude that rides along, with back-up not far behind in a van. They make a few busts here and there…but these groggans ain’t gonna pay the fine anyway, are they?
Now, if people REALLY wanted to solve the problem, they’d adapt some of MY ideas, including the plexiglass screen for the driver, a high voltage metal plate on the floor next to his window, and finally, a “trap door”…sort of an “escalator” on the bus steps that “helps” problem citizens back from whence they came…the sidewalk…
” a high voltage metal plate on the floor next to his window, and finally, a “trap door”…sort of an “escalator” on the bus steps that “helps” problem citizens back from whence they came…the sidewalk…”
Muahahahahahaha I love it
BMF: I like the way you think. Make it happen!
Drivers range from anal retentive to complete apathy when it comes to fare policy. I’d say best not to test it.
I got on a MT once just after a price increase that I had forgotten about. I paid $1.65 or whatever it was at the time and the new price was $2. The driver could have given me $1.65 back and I’d walk but instead he chose to let me stay but berate me in front of everyone else on the bus. His exact words were, “You’re making me look bad.”
Maybe the price was still $1.65 and I accidentally only put $1.55 in. Either way, I made the driver look bad even though he did his best to make me look and feel like a crook.
i take the bus..its what i do! I also have a licence..but no wheels….and let me tell you something the shit that the bus drivers put up with is crazy…i am a 100% in agreement with….who gives a fuck about a phony transfer…who knows who is packing a gun or any weapon for that matter….get on the bus..pick a seat, sit down and shut the fuck up!
I would imagine their ultimate goal is a free bus ride, not fooling a bus driver. I wouldn’t feel too smug OP.
Seriously, WHO takes the bus? What is wrong with you people? The bus is for the poor and challenged. if you’ve got the cash, but a freaking car like every other sane person.
there are tons of reasons why people take the bus….some people can’t drive, or afford to drive, some people are just too fucked up to be behind the wheel…whatever the reason is …sit down and shut the fuck up…zooom
yeah, I can’t drink and then drive but I sure can drink and then sit on a bus and still get to where I’m going. I should likely double check my fly though… don’t want another repeat of children across the bus laughing at me.
and I like the idea of a high voltage metal plate except for the fact that you’d eventually kill someone… and we all know how that went with tazers.
Current = Voltage/Resistance and since we’re closer to being all water than Poseidon himself, we’d fry quicker than a fillet-o-fish (or McFish as I call ’em)
luckily, it’s easier to resuscitate people killed with high voltage so let em fry, I say.
they, after all, started it.
just don’t put the button near their cupholder or turn signal or anything…. we don’t need random, innocent people spasming as they get on the bus.
