I am not some rule crazy bully who has nothing better to do than pick on skater kids and beggars. I pride myself on my manners and I know when to give someone a break. So when I am in the middle of an argument, it’s safe to assume it’s because the person’s being unreasonable and now I need to intervene.
And then you walk into the middle of it and try and fix it for us.
#1 It’s not your job. #2 You don’t know the situation. #3 All you’re doing is making my job tougher.
I don’t know where you get off thinking you can march into the middle of my work thinking you can do my job better than I, but all you’ve accomplished is to make me look like an asshole because you’re acting like a fool.
And then I have to deal with these exact people day after day because they know they can get away with it BECAUSE weepy dolts like yourself want to step in, take their side and launch in on me.
This has nothing to do with saving face or about you going to my supervisor, (who will just tell you what you want to hear and then we bitch about you in the back office). It’s not even about the lowlifes I’m trying to deal with. What bothers me is just your sheer arrogance… you might as well just call me a douche bag and be done with it.
So unless it involves you, or you see a guy on the ground (blood soaked nightstick). PLEASE, just give us the benefit of the doubt and assume that we know our jobs. That we’re aware of how to handle people AND ARE NOT ASSHOLES!
So with all due respect, kindly fuck off…—Your friendly downtown security guard

No, Yfdsg – we won’t fuck off and you why? It’s because of undertrained and over-eager rent-a-cops who have taken things way too far in the past. Blame your peers for the unwanted interventions, they are totally responsable for it.
If I see a rent-a-cop taking it too far I gladly call in the real cops. That way the alleged offender gets a break from your douchebag power trip and the real story comes out from both sides.
Sure, by all means, CALL THE REAL COPS… I’d gladly let them give these assholes the bum’s rush…
Just dont be some godawful prick who waltzes in and tries to be a cop when you’re not even a “rent-a-pig”
Deal?
Oh how I love the wanna be drop out cop school 8 buck an hour rent a cops trying to be something .You guys make me laugh .
I love your wanna be cop suits and haircuts . I love you have a cell phone you can arm yourself with and call someone that can actually do the job for you . I am With VOR on this one .
there is a reasonable time for a bystander to step in. and then there are a million times to stay away. i used to work pinkerton’s, you know, the dudes with guns. a guy steps up to me, while i’m trying to subdue this drunk, starts to grab my arm,i tell him to back off. that i’m making an arrest, and he continues, i pull out my sidearm, point it at his head, tell him to fuck off one time more, or if he doesn’t, he dies. dude gets all mouthy, i drop drunk, grab him by throat, take him down, and charge him for obstruction. now i got two down on ground, one pair of cuffs on them. i call for the other security, and they come and load them into police car that shows up. a huge fine and court date later, he comes back to me and says sorry. lesson learned thwe hard way. takes all fucking kinds bud, takes all kinds out there. if security says to back off, you back off, and let them do their fucking job, or you could wind up hurt, or maybe dead. and btw, i never got a bit of shit for that deal. i was basically a federal cop, same as rcmp. and the training was the exact same at toronto academy. 6 long months.
Police officers, security guards, bus drivers. We’ve all met at least one who behaves like he failed the entrance exam to “British Football Hooligan Academy”. But these guys encounter more examples of failed Darwinism in an 8 hour shift than most of us meet in a year so I tend to assume “good guy having a bad day”. And it’s a fuck of lot easier (and safer) for John Q. Activist to live out his Gandhi fantasies by getting in the face of a salaried employee who’s responsible to a chain of command , than it is to give a civics lesson to the genetically degraded afterbirths whose existence requires the presence of private security guards in the first place.
Which came first, the rent a cop or the need for a rent a cop? If the general public didn’t have filth in their midst we wouldn’t need any type of law enforcement.
Bring back hanging, flogging, the stocks, boiling in oil, castration etc. etc.
and basil, let’s not forget my favourite, the chopping block. jesus, what i would not give for a good public beheading or thousand.
and btw, i’d even volunteer to do this, for free. as long as i could keep the heads to use as lamps.
BTW Lifer, the flensed skull of your vanquished foe does not make a good wine goblet. Don’t ask how I know. – the 80’s were a different, more innocent time.
Geez BF, how could you leave out the tar & feathers?
I actually agree with OP, unless you saw it all happen from the beginning or a life is in danger, don’t jump in. There are bad security guards, sure, and didn’t I see one who seemed to have Alzheimer’s last night, but there are those who do know what they’re doing.
Anyone who believes they “Know IT All” are the best candidates IMO for training.
THat way those with a spark of intelligence will realise that they actually know jack shit !
So OP go to your training course & LEARN Something !
You definately need it…I actually think, you REALLY need it !
Also I don’t know if First Aid is a requirement, but it certainly should be !
I love leading the rent-a-cops into thinking I am scoping out the place while I make my purchases. They get right paranoid. I might start leaving a trail of donuts for them.
more, in the cop training school, you had to know cpr, and other life saving techniques. not to mention, crowd, riot control, weapons and self defense, both armd and unarmed. then there were tons of paperwork you had to know, plus the c.c., so that if one got the cuffs on them, the charge was there as well. and let’s not forget the driving and firing ranges, as well as the course itself.
L S … I thought this was a bouncer/security guard training bitch.
If one wishes to be either of those up until now…
I thought all they needed was to be able to find their place of employment 3 out of 5 tries & be able to mark their names clearly on their lunches.
i want to be an animal control officer but alas no firearms
If you want to become a complete power trip arsehair, in both official languages of course, join CBSA – formerly known as Canada Customs.
do they carry weapons?
It’s about time they’re required to have proper training…
1. People. Any profession. Takes all types. Security guards included.
2. One asshole doesn’t cancel out another.
3. The private security sector is a joke. Pay. Hours. People on both sides. The whole premise. It isn’t about protecting people or property, it’s insurance and liability.
most guards now just want a p[aycheck, and don’t care about shit all else.some security companies make it mandatory for training skills and crowd control. but there are those that want to hire actual off duty cops, that know all the ins and outs, and you are fucked to go against them. the force is strong in the blue world, as always will be.
Which came first, the rent a cop or the need for a rent a cop? If the general public didn’t have filth in their midst we wouldn’t need any type of law enforcement.

i agree Basil Fawlty.
OP, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you had the situation under control.
You see, I actually agree that gangs of loitering and noisy teens SHOULD be moved along if they are creating a disturbance, but you have offered no details so who knows?
As far as “knowing your job”, I have always said there should be a higher level of training and certification for uniformed guards. Night watchmen, maybe it’s not as necessary….but in dealing with the public, you would get more respect if folks knew there was at least a month or two training and a “licence” at stake.
Generally I agree people should not get involved…but when we have situations like recently where 8 cops are caught on video beating the snot out of an innocent teen down in the US, it’s pretty hard to walk on by when there is a loud “arguement”
Best thing for you to do is to have a pocket video/audio recorder to capture any interaction with the public. In Nova Scotia there is no requirement for you to inform anyone you are recording.
I have a wristwatch recorder – perfect for arm on the door while dealing with traffic cops
A pen camera and a vehicle blackbox
For security guards there is a great clip-on pocket recorder for about $75

Paingirl, the only weapons Canada Customs are entrusted with are, a Tim’s cup, a swivel chair, and the same courteous, professional attitude that makes going to the post office such a joy.
I don’t know your style personally, yfdtsg, but its security guards who act like they have any authority above that of a regular private citizen that piss me off. The only power you have is to call the real cops. You can’t make me “come back to the office” with you, you can’t “search my bag”. Until you security guards stop acting like you are authority figures of any sort, people will continue to laugh at you. Please take off your mock batman belt, the only thing on there is a radio, a flash light and two dozen pockets.
What happened to begin with?
No one knows!
