Just because I have a penis doesn’t mean I have extra rights. Just because she has a vagina doesn’t mean she is any less deserving or rights or respect. Just because he is being friendly toward you doesn’t mean he is trying to sleep with you. Just because she smiled in your direction on the bus does not imply a deeper connection. Just because he asked you out doesn’t mean he is a creep. Just because she said no doesn’t make her a bitch. Be excellent to each other. —Hoyest.

  1. In my youth I was always fond of this quote from Robert Duvall’s character in “The Eagle Has Landed“

One of the benefits of being 53 and married, is that a smile from a young lovely is its own reward.
Not much I can add to Hoyest`s wisdom except to re-iterate that both sexes can benefit from manners, respecting boundaries, and knowing that just because you have one doesn`t mean you have to be one.

  2. When he said be excellent to each other got nostalgic about Bill and Ted

  3. THE MEANING OF GENITALIA

“Just because I have a penis doesn’t mean I have extra rights. Just because she has a vagina doesn’t mean she’s any less deserving or (sic) rights or respect.” Hoyist

Do genitalia possess meaning? Does having a penis or a vagina embody the capacity to explain or to account for some phenomenon? Surely not since neither the penis nor the vagina possesses a mind, that by virtue of which meaning is assigned to phenomena of various sorts.

Indeed, the possession of a penis or a vagina doesn’t, in itself, mean anything at all. They are what might be described as being “epistemologically neutral.” Of course, in certain circles the possession of a penis or a vagina might account for variations in the possession of rights or respect but these are social constructs inferred from such possession. In themselves they carry no meaning whatsoever. To suggest that they do is to perpetrate an ontological confusion.

  4. WHO is the Top Commenter? According to the Coast, it’s montrealman; but I did some research and learned the truth! Using the available data up to 09:48:38AM yesterday, here’s what I found:

montrealman had a total of *2,965 comments, with 59% of them “Liked” and 41% of them “Disliked”. The most “Likes” on a comment was 21 with the most “Dislikes” being 27. MM had the lowest spread (difference between the percentages of likes/dislikes) at 18%. *In the data collection process, I found 3,524 comments BUT only 2,965 showing Likes/Dislikes; dating back to 11/17/11. I used only the “scored” comments for this rating. I swear I have not skewed the results; do your own investigation.

I (Hing Frogg) had a total of 316 comments, with 59% of them “Liked” and 41% of them “Disliked”. The most “Likes” on a comment was 63 with the most “Dislikes” being 73. I had the second lowest spread at 27%. If I were to claim the 2,000+ comments of my dear departed friend, Meaty, I’d have a similar score as GDM; but in his honour…

Ivan had a total of 3,119 comments, with 78% of them “Liked” and 22% of them “Disliked”. The most “Likes” on a comment was 78 with the most “Dislikes” being 22. Ivan had the second highest spread at 55%. I noted a comment which gave Ivan 1,000 likes. It may have been me (of himself), although I guarantee the legitimacy of these results. The 1,000 likes were NOT included in the data (sorry Buddy)…

And this brings us to the real(?) Top Commenter – Gooddog Molly! GDM had a total of 553 comments, with 82% of them “Liked” and 18% of them “Disliked”. The most “Likes” on a comment was 73 with the most “Dislikes” being 17. GDM had the highest spread at 65%. Although her Total comments score doesn’t match the likes of MM and The Great Ivan, she’s clearly the Most Liked Commenter! And if we look at the spread between likes and dislikes, again GDM comes out on top. Not sure if she is or isn’t… GMD?

So join me in congratulating GDM! She may not be a top, but she’s the Top Commenter!

  5. lol, that’s just the new version of good dog molly. I lost all my 5000 comments when they banned me. (like your ancestor meaty)
anyway, wtf are you doing nukka-ing the stats. go beat off or something.

(and yes, I have been complimented on my spread in the past, the dim past)

(and who says I am not a top? ) (sometimes)

(wait a minute – most liked????? oh fuck. where have I gone wrong? life is not a popularity contest for me)

  6. Do I say, “You see, this is why women are generally disliked. Men try to be light-hearted and convivial but women are all set to rip you a new asshole the moment you open your mouth…”? or do I remain silent and say nothing?

So glad I’m gay; you guys can have that shite…

  7. ^^ ummmm speaking of not seeing the humour in a persons comment….are you sure you are not straight?

  8. I suppose I could read back over 50 million threads to try to find at what point you got pissed at me, but I don’t have the time. its a shame, because I like your character here.
there are contributors that I don’t like at all. you are not one of them.

    c’est la vie.

  9. I’m sure in my 13700+ comments, I’ve said some things I didn’t mean…
but then again I also didn’t come here and post to always be liked.

    hosers

  10. OMG people! The exercise was meant to challenge the Coast’s assertions (see Top Commenters page bit) and to have some fun. While the tabulating of the data was “scientific”, the data collection process was far from that…

Note the difference between total comments in the “data collection process” (3524) and the “scored comments” (2965). Why the discrepancy? What are the reasons? My hypothesis is that the “unscored comments” were the result of a collective cognitive shortfall among the other commenters. I mean, can you imagine Willard understanding the “The Fact-Value Dichotomy?” You must be joking. Clearly, the results have been skewed!

  12. Molly/Hing Frogg,
    Quit bickering, you two! 🙂
Back in the old days you two would have made a wonderful couple. You could have been his “beard” and he could have been your ……I don’t know what the male equivalent is … let’s say “purse”.

  13. MM, you are university-educated. If the data was not scored, how can it be quantitatively evaluated? To clarify the point, the Likes/Dislikes “score” didn’t show on all of your comments. I suggest you RSVP the Mod and ask her why.

  14. Love the sentiment OP.

Since our resident amphibian is questioning the “top commenter” list, maybe the Mod should set down the criteria for “top commenter” Just because.

  15. QUALITY VS QUANTITY

    Hing Frogg (02/20, 4:28PM)

“If the data was (sic) not scored, how can it be quantitatively evaluated?”

It is true that I am university-educated but clearly this is not so in your case. Since it is merely a frequency analysis, the phrase “quantitative evaluation” is incoherent because nothing is evaluated, only counted. It is an oxymoron.

The correct phrase would be “qualitative evaluation” which aims at evaluating the QUALITY of the different comments. Indeed, this was precisely my point when, as an example, I drew attention to my “The Fact-Value Dichotomy” which sailed over the heads of many (most? all?) other commenters who failed as a consequence to respond and thereby resulted in an abysmally low “score” on the “quantitative evaluation.”

I neither know nor care why the Likes/Dislikes “score” didn’t show on all of my comments and so have no reason to RSVP the Mod and ask her why. However, in view of the above, I find myself forced to give you a very low “score” on the qualitative analysis. I trust you will agree.

  16. No, counting the likes and dislikes – the numbers of such – is indeed quantitative. Perhaps you should study something other than philosophy.

  17. this was such a nice bitch, kinda got lost in the sesame street counting. funny, I was thinking all week of composing something similar but no time. perhaps this weekend between ark building and bread making.

  18. Perhaps you should start studying philosophy which might help you to understand what I said. I never disputed the fact that counting the likes and dislikes is indeed quantitative. My point which you seem to have entirely missed is that such counting is not QUALITATIVE, the only legitimate basis upon which the comments can be evaluated. That’s evaluated, not simply counted, a distinction which seems to have eluded you.

  19. Well yes, since semantics deal with the meaning of words – words like “quantity” and “quality” for example – you might want to find out whether any local university is offering a relevant course, for external students only of course.
