to all you dumb fucks that think you can go around my bus when im pulling away from a stop on a narrow downtown street called barrington street and realize that the buses now a days are just as quick as your stupid cars and you have to draw back in behind my 40 foot machine before you cause a collision. Where ya goin??? In a big rush for what???? to go absolutely nowhere.

  1. uhm, if there’s a collision as a result of YOU pulling into traffic YOU are at fault. 40 ft ass or not the rules of the road apply to buses too.

  2. I sympathize with the OP. However, on the flip side: I’m by no means a fast or agressive driver, but I’ve had a few ‘near misses’ due to a bus starting to pull away when I’m already passing.

  3. ah yes,the game of chicken, with a big heavy bus.i’m damn sure you, driving your little car will win, a one way ticket to the hospital that is. yes,try to be quick and sly, but if you aren’t,then people get hurt, maybe you only, but i bet there are far more on the bus. i know a lot of the drivers at transit, yes it sucks, but who gave you the right to be an asshole. if you put the lives of many people after yours, then you dserve a kick in the ass. and will the cops take pity on you, nope.you try again tommorrow, maybe you will make it,then again, maybe we’ll all see your name in the obits. happy driving, and smarten the fuck up.

  4. Hi kay, did you ever notice that think yello line on the street???? That means DONT PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!duhhhhhhhhhh. so it would be my right of way thank you very much.

  5. Actually the buses don’t have “right of way” in the way you seem to think…they have preference at certian intersections, but they are subject to the rules of the road just the same as every other vehicle. If that idiot pulled out into someone who was legally proceeding in the main lane, the bus would be at fault…turn signals don’t give you the right to sideswipe someone.

To the OB: Good job proving the MT haters point that many of the drivers are asshats, way to serve your city!

  6. If there is a solid yellow line, on any street, you can’t pass a bus. Dickweed. I love when I’m on the bus and people try to to that, but the bus wins.

I also love it at the Dartmouth terminal, when douchebags are in the grid area and the bus drivers creep up real close and lay on the horn.

    It’s awesome.

    Yay to the bus drivers!

  7. If the idiot was crossing the double yellow line, for non emergency reasons (I see it all the fucking time and it drives me nuts) then the driver should be suspended and forced to go back to Drivers Ed.

It’s like the idiots that are going by parked cars on Windsor street…they come a full half car length into the other lane when they have 2 feet of distance even if they stayed completely in their own lane, THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINE IS NOT A SUGGESTION.

  8. Excuse me SIR(der)
Until you know what you are talking about, dont post comments on here in regards to bus drivers being asshats. Not all drivers are that. There are cool bus drivers, mainly the young guys are cool.

  9. The grid area is exactly for buses…it’s one of the intersections where they have preference BUT if the bus is pulled over and the lane is clear…the passing cars have right of way, as long as they are crossing that fucking double yellow (this really pisses me off and it seems more and more people are doing it).

  10. uhm, excuse me? Where does the Act say a bus has the right of way? IT DOESN’T! The ONLY vehicle on the road that has the right of way when it’s not already established in a lane of traffic is an emergency vehicle displaying it’s flashing lights and they’re charged with extra care responsibilities while doing so. Transit drivers may proceed only when it’s safe to do so, not just because they’ve put on a turning signal and happen to have a 40 ft ass. The only dumbass here is an aggressive bus driver who puts everybody at risk by FAILING to yield to oncoming traffic or FAILING to safely merge into traffic.

Gotta wonder if this is the same driver who’s subject of so many ‘slow the fuck down so I don’t go sprawling on your bus floor’ bitches or maybe it’s the driver who’s in a big hurry to get the the terminal for a smoke so he’s blown past your stop?

  11. Excuse me again SIR! Remember the SOLID YELLOW LINE means DO NOT PASS……Numb Skull
My bus is just as fast as your car. SO THERE!!!!!

  12. Huh…that’s funny, I don’t see an “All bus drivers are idiots” in my post, maybe you inferred more than I said?

I stated MANY..because MANY are asshats, but as with everything there are exceptions to that…and the nice ones though are pretty fantastic and though I hadn’t really noticed I do think that most of those that I did meet, were younger though I am sure there are also a few nice older ones about too.

Implying that I don’t know what I am talking about just because you disagee doesn’t mean that I don’t know what I am talking about…for 98% of the time that I open my mouth or type…I know EXACTLY what I am talking about. Which is why sometimes on some posts…you won’t see me commenting, because I either have no interest to or I just don’t know much about what the discussion is covering.

I did like your use of “Excuse me sir”…very gentlemanly of you, nice touch! : D

  13. What Im telling you KAY IS: I am already eastblished in the lane and all I see is this dumb fuck passing me in the oppisite lane like where on the transcanada………….jesus people are fucking stupid. Let me guess your one of those people that lost a chicken game with a lovely metro transit bus??? so sorry…heheh

  14. Double Yellow means don’t pass…sure that’s right, but if the bus is pulled over it is no longer “in traffic” so it’s NOT PASSING, passing would be if the bus was in the lane and a car came up on it…crossed partially or wholly into the other lane and proceeded past the bus…which is illegal everywhere in city limits and anywhere else the double yellow in placed. If the bus is on the side of the road…it is ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD…you know, where parked cars are, but I guess no one is allowed to proceed past those too I gather?

You are being the numbskull here, so drop the name calling and I promise to try and not point out that you are being an idiot.

Oh and “your” bus does not excellerate as fast as a car, maybe if you dropped that notion there would be fewer instances of buses cutting people off and nearly sideswipeing them. Maybe the MT haters (I don’t count myself as one of them…but I think you are starting to change my opinion) have reason to feel that the buses are driven a little too erratically? Stop thinking “your” bus is a sports car and that you have right of way regardless of actual law…it’s a 14 ton vehicle that is supposed to “share” the road with the citizens it serves.

If you would like to be disproven regarding “your” buses acceleration..bring it out to the park and I will bring my little 2.0 liter Protege and blow your doors and socks off. ; )

  15. Protransit: you posted “when im pulling away from a stop” which absolutely implies that you have pulled over and are deciding to enter traffic again…which means you don’t have right of way, it means you are cutting someone off that is rightfully and legally in the lane (unless it’s an asshole crossing the double yellow…even if its half a tire, this has to be my biggest hate on about driving in Halifax: STAY IN YOUR LANE PEOPLE!!!!).

Sure if you have your turn signal on and there is some douche 20-30 feet behind that accelerates to basically prevent you from getting going again (I have seen it happen so I agree with you on that), by all means pull out BUT if the person is already there and you just pull out (I have also seen this alot too) sorry man you are way in the wrong.

Oh I just noted that I dropped a “not” on my 3rd post…that may lead to some confusion.
“as long as they are NOT crossing that fucking double yellow”

  16. thank you DER.
Come for a ride on my bus some night in rush hour traffic when im driving NARROW barrington street and i will show you how often it happens when im already in the lane and people pass me in the ONCOMMING traffic lane. It sickens me when i see people risking a collision just to pass a bus that is just as fast as the cars today! I’m just waiting for the day when a cop sees that happen and pull that person over. That would be bliss. BUT that would also require the police of halifax to give a shit!!!! but that another story….hehe

  17. Protransit… “My bus is just as fast as your car”… an aggressive driver with a REALLY FAST bus. Voila! Case and point!

And no, I’d never play chicken with a bus (or anybody). I’ve only ever been dangerously CUT OFF by buses whose driver thinks the rules doesn’t apply to him. Most recently… driving in the outside lane heading onto the old bridge from Halifax. There’s a bus lane there to service a stop. I know only too well who’s going to DIE if there’s a collision so, yeah, I’m the one putting my heart back into my chest when you pull out with 20 ft of clearance for your 40 fucking foot bus! You don’t notice, bus driver. You’ve got a 40 ft ass hiding the car you nearly creamed with your DEATH MACHINE.

If you’re already established in a lane then why do you think driving a bus makes you suddenly special? If somebody is going to cross the double yellow line to pass you and illegally drive on the wrong side of the road the fact that it’s a big bad bus gettin’ passed has nothing to do with the stupidity required to do it. So let’s all agree it’s stupid to pass ANY VEHICLE when it’s illegal to do so.

  18. ProT: Unfortunately I have seen police witnessing that behavior…and they didn’t do anything, I was mighty pissy for a few minutes after that. I agree with you on Barrington…it’s far too narrow to proceed past cars let alone a bus whilst managing to stay in the proper lane (not to mention the suicidal jaywalkers), they shouldn’t even allow parking on the one side franky. How a streetcar ever fit there I am baffled…though I guess that was before there were thousands of cars on the road.

JoeyJoe: You are mistaken…I believe what you think “right of way” means might be incorrect. The end of this story comes when you magically come up with official documentation issued by government that specifically states “buses have right of way, regradless of provincial law or liability”, until then I think I’ll stick to the Motor Vehicle Act thank you very much.

  19. I don’t know if it’s law here but in many places I’ve lived buses have the right-of-way when they are signalling in order to rejoin the flow of traffic. Cars must, within reasonable ability, yield to the bus rejoining traffic.
While they are pulled over and picking up or dropping off passengers, it is ok to pass them and legal to do so WITHIN YOUR OWN LANE. However, if you need to cross the yellow line, single or double, make sure there are no on-coming vehicles. Otherwise you are a fucking dumbass, breaking the law and a menace – GET OFF THE ROAD!!

  20. Kay,

    DEATH MACHINE??????
haha, bet if your car broke down, you’d be the first one to hop one of our lovely buses and greet the bus driver with a “hello”…
Have a great day ya’ll & don’t forget to give the driver a break once and a while. It goes a longggg way.

  21. This turned ugly real fast. *facepalms*

First off, kay is right, nothing in the MV act that requires cars to yield to a bus pulling out from a stop, at least not in NS. Yielding to a bus is a courtesy, and for those of you who exercise that courtesy, I thank you.

Second, I’ve been guilty of playing chicken with cars on Barrington before, either because they’ve been the 4th car to ignore the left signal light, or they pull around other cars that are waiting for me to pull out. I have yet to do this when there are any oncoming cars. I’ll put that out there too. I’m no angel.

The solution for both sides is to use common sense. If the RIGHT signal is on, I expect cars to safely pull around me if they can. If the 4-ways are on, I REALLY expect cars to go around me. If the LEFT signal is on and I’ve yet to move and you want to go around, so be it, just do it quickly, safely, and don’t waffle. Once I start moving, it’s best to wait for the next stop to go around.

  22. Kay: you are still using “Case and Point”…you do know that it’s “Case in point” and is used to refer to something that supports your arguement such as: “Case in point, the other day I was 23rd’s past a bus the other day and he pulled out, nearly killing me!”
    Or
“Kay is an idiot, case in point…she keeps using mismatched and mixed up sayings, even after it has been pointed out to her numerous times; it totally makes her look like an idiot.”

  23. oh, I see, let me explain. The term “DEATH MACHINE” refers to the “14 ton vehicle that is supposed to ‘share’ the road with the…” little tiny car I’m driving. Sorry to be confusing.

  24. Gotchya! “Thanks” DER? Since you caught my drift and all… your efforts on this front are better spent on the hog and could be A LOT more “fun” too.

  25. i drive on barrington a few times a week to take my folks about…its fucking incredible. bus pulls over wait 3 seconds let the bus out…do not go into the other lane ffs take your white knuckles off the steering wheel and calm the fuck down

  26. DER, are you sure? The OP’s proven my case in making his point, “Just as quick as you”. Since he did both didn’t his comment make my case AND prove my point that aggressive bus driving is the problem? It may not be the cliche you want it to be but it is plain English and means exactly what I want it to mean. Go on… go pick on the hog. He likes it.

  27. Thank you PDG, I think the main issue with cars and buses is a lack of willingness to yield regardless of the right of way. If the bus has the signal on and you are not right next to it, let it the fuck out…even if you have right of way it doesn’t mean be jerk, but if you are right next to it or 2 feet from it when the turn signal goes on, hurry up and get by don’t dawdle and pick your nose…AND FOR GOD’S SAKE DON’T CREEP OVER TO THE OTHER LANE!!!

People on buses have somewhere to go as well, and they have greater time concerns than someone that can go the most direct route. Far too often you see someone accelerate to pass a car or bus trying to re-enter traffic…heck even to pass a pedestrian that just pushed the crosswalk light for that matter. let them out or let them cross…it takes 30 seconds (really…count it, ususally less than 30) is life passing you by that quickly.

Read your Motor Vehicle Act and stop thinking something is such…”just because it is…end of story”. Know you road rules but try and inject a little courtesy.

Oh and Joeyjoejoejoejoe buddy old pal: know what the fuck you are talking about before you accuse others of being wrong, ESPECIALLY if you are going to be obstinate about it.

  28. you know, I have to admit the Nova Scotian’s willingness to yield the right of is uncanny. I seen people come to a complete stop on a highway to allow cars to emerge from a driveway. I’ve never seen that anywhere before. I heard this yielding to be courteous instead of yielding when you’re required to led to the reorganization of the rotary. (At first I thought this trend was what led to the incredibly low insurance rates but now I see that ain’t so.)

  29. Yea because I actually laugh at it kay – thats why I like it . What I like is when you get picked on and become all pissy and retarded . Thats even funnier !!! Especially when you get called on your lack of knowledge . Unlike you – most stuff runs off my back . But lately you made some good points . When they are good and spot on , I won’t pick on them. Get raised to district manager for Mc Donalds yet?

  30. Hog is unrepentant regarding his spelling, and that’s ok because he doesn’t use ridiculous terms such as “case and point” while trying to act like an intellectual.

He is who is and he doesn’t try to over act the part. He makes intelligent and constructive posts and doesn’t need to pretend he’s all grammatically correct about it (which is one of the reasons I like his posts…sure the block of text can be a little hard on the eyes but at least he does it with flair), you on the other hand are always trying to gussy up your post and only end up looking sillystupidignorant.

CASE IN POINT: Plain English is used to convey legalese and complicated terms in laymans terms so that non-lawyerdoctors etc can understand it, also it is generally an accepted fact that plain english should be FREE OF CLICHES’ not actually full of misusedmixed up cliches.

    Here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plain_English

  31. And you should also note Kay that I was with you on this Bitch…you were doing alright there for a bit. Still more to grow…but it’s a start!

  32. prot,is that you ryan? sounds like a bud i know that drives down that street in the evening. that fucking street is death, waiting to happen. but don’t everyone get bent out of shape here. some of you are right, some of you are wrong.i’ve been driving to many years, and have seen to many idiots playing chicken, not only with buses. how about the plow drivers, same thing, but fools still try to pass them, on unplowed fucking streets yet. not to mention ice covered at times. these guys are ahead of you, so you don’t end up being a statistic in the c.h. for fucks sake. yes, use some of that shit in your skulls called brains, and drive safely, not like a moron. if you don’t give a fuck about you, care about someone else’s life.

  33. It can be funny when people screw up the english language. My massage therapist who’s first language is not english used to think she was being asked to ‘hold the fork’ when asked to ‘hold the fort’…hehehe. She laughed at herself when she realized the difference but she no longer manages things with gastronomy utensils…hehehe!

  34. Maybe if Metro Transit had better service I would not have gone out and bought a car. I am one of those drivers that purposely cuts off, blocks, slow downs, passes, etc Metro Transit buses. One of these days one of your drivers will hit my car and then look out when my lawyer contacts you (there are ways around Union members).

  35. My response to this Bitch is simple really. Unless your vehicle is bigger than the bus don’t play chicken with buses. The bus will win every time!

  36. haha nice one OceanGILF !!! In calgary it’s sometimes a chore trying to speak to people that english isn’t they’re first language . I have to ask several times what it was they said !!!! Though it can be fun hearing them try to speak how we speak and mess it all up !!! All in good fun !!!

  37. Sorry ProT…the 14 tons was my input initially, she took it from there. I just quickly Googled it but I think that was for School Buses and I was like…pretty close?

    Apologies my bad!

While they are no sports cars, I have to say they are pretty nimble for 16 tons (at least you guys make them look nimble…relatively speaking).

Sebastian…why would you do that? Their job is hard enough as it is without people intentionally making it worse…what do you do for a living? Would you like it if people went out of their way to make it worse? If they do already…what makes it ok for you to pass that along?
I noticed in the past 5-10 years…your (transit buses) wide right turns have gotten tighter, do the buses have some sort of “All Wheel Steering” now? They don’t seem to swing out left as much anymore.

  38. Yea no doubt Der !!! The driver make it look pretty easy to wheel them tanks around !!! But we have to admit – a driver is a driver and both buses trucks etc and passenger car drivers are all going to make mistakes at one point . And either one can be agressive – we’re all human .

But I agree with you Der – it takes just alittle courtesy for both to carry on without pissing off or endangering each other . I drive both a car and 3/4 Ton truck in a very congested city !! I will let buses and cars merge into traffic if they are reasonably fast at taking the opportunity to do so . It just makes traffic flow better if people let others in the flow .

One thing on this – I wave to drivers who let me in ( I will do it fast mind you ) and that goes along way !!! Just remember the thank you wave and your excused !!!That – for me – takes away and and all fustration i have about it and makes me think its appreciated !!!

  39. I once had the driver in front of me come to a dead stop on an Ontario highway to let a yielding driver on the on-ramp merge ahead of him. With a car in the next lane I was some glad that motorcycles can pass between cars on the white line! Where DO some people learn to drive?

  40. No dount Oceanlady No doubt . I have had the same happen to me on the 417 outside ottawa happen !!! Maybe they are bribing the license dudes for they’re drivers ? Surely didn’t get it the right way !!!

  41. Ok I understand the OP is pissed, but by the same token, it really sucks being stuck behind a bus on a narrow street. The exhaust is gross, there’s more frequent stops and starts (especially on a street like North Street) and it’s difficult to find an opportunity to pass them. Not saying it’s always acceptable to try to pass though.

  42. In Ottawa, transit vehicles have the right of way all the time. Cars are supposed to yield to busses when they’re pulling out. Do they always? No, but I think it’s a good rule that NS should adopt because it’s mind boggling how drivers treat busses in this city. I’ve seen on more than one occasion cars ignoring the fact that it’s the bus’s turn to turn at that 4 way stop on South Park/Inglis/Young Ave. and just cutting them off which never made sense to me to cut off a bus because I’m pretty sure a bus is no match for a car when it comes down to it…

  43. I never knew that in Ottawa PK. I do know thou they have right of way in octranspo lanes on the highways ( 417 ) and in transitways .Either way , your right . don’t fuck with a bus if your in a car – you will lose forsure !!!

  44. PK: even it was enacted…do you really think it would be followed? People still drive without licenses and insurance in this province, and I still see fuckers driving and talking on their cell phones (when a cheap handsfree set is $30).

  45. That pretty much sums it up Der? . PK I once got tired of waiting on the queensway ( parking lot , if you know ottawa you know the 417 and its parking lot qualities ) near orleans and drove on the octranspo lane to skip to jean d’arc . Illegal and ticketable – yep – did I follow rules ? Nope . Even so your right with your thoughts on it – but just adding to Der’s above post and qualifying part of his statement. Well atleast I drive with a valid license and insurance !!!
