Dear guy at the gym tonight:
I’m not sure if it was the friendly hello smile I gave you as I passed you or the old Teamsters tee I was wearing, but the scowl you managed to throw my way every time we met on the track was *really* impressive.
Really, was it the union or was it the smile?
I can barely keep control my breathing when I’m running, let alone muster such ill will about something, so good for you! It’s just a frikken shirt. I wasn’t asking you to sign up, I wasn’t asking you anything.
Thanks though, my dad was the business agent who mostly loved his job. Now that he can no longer work, he’ll at least get a kick out of the story. That makes up for your scowl any day. —Hoffa Jr.

Maybe you stink.
Or maybe you were running the wrong way on the track. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the t-shirt.
What’s even funnier is that Your ASSUMING you new what buddy was thinking. When really have no idea.
I know if I was running laps I’d be scowling the entire time!
hehehe me too
Maybe it had to do with the fact you stared at him everytime you ran past… sounds creepy to me. he probably thought you were trying to hit on him or something.
anything union lately leaves people with wonder and awe, that an obvious criminal org. gets away with murder daily, and then you think gov. was bad. it is a learned behaviour on both their parts. but to wear a tee with that on it, gee. maybe you should go down gotteningin street with a tee that says that you support the k.k.k., same fucking difference.
Years ago the teacher’s union in ontario put out t-shirts that read “If You Can Read This, Thank A Teacher”. I always thought the back should have read…”And If You Can’t, Blame One!”
my dad’s a retired teacher and even he sometimes shakes his head at the power/wealth they wield; frigg On. teachers Union own everything 🙂
And whoever administers their pension fund clearly skipped the Clockwork Orange style “Ethical Investments” course that the NDP would love every Canadian to be subjected to.
Could be the stink, could be a variety of factors. I see people in the gym who don’t wipe their sweat off the machines, and of course I give them the “you dumb fuck” look.
You were running the wrong way dummie!!!!!
i worked for a retired teamster once (like 45!) and he said in all honesty the only way you could get fired is to kill a guy on the job in front of management and you MIGHT get fired 🙂
actually Martym you’ll be fired if you get caught stealing, or not paying your dues will also get you flung.
OH YEAH espec. the dues!
In BC the hospitality industry has a union, servers have stolen from cutomers, walked out on shifts, got caught selling drugs and still they were allowed to stay at the job, wtf?
I don’t know about that union, i only know about the IA & the Teamsters
i was in a union in a hotel in toronto, there was never and strife/strikes but lots of really lazy apathetic employees
I think it really depends on the context. I’ve heard horror stories of unions made up of complacent employees who imagine that their union exists to protect them from themselves. At my workplace, most employees actually work really hard at their jobs – but, from what I can tell, this climate existed before the union was brought in. A lot depends on the union culture of the workplace and the historical relationship with management.
