I’m behind this bus that’s pulled into a stop on Spring Garden nearer Robie, two cars are ahead of me completely parallel to the bus. Bus turns on his blinker and just pulls out. The driver of the second car was quick enough to realize that a big honking bus was about to completely sideswipe him, and he had to swerve completely into oncoming traffic to avoid a collision. Really? —Too Shocked to Get Bus Plates

Ain’t inattention great?
I take it that the first car got by OK.
No, it’s the car driver’s fault, the bus had it’s blinker on.
sarcasm.
This happened to me too except to a slightly less outrageous degree. I was driving up North away from the bridge and saw a bus ahead of me stopped at a stop. I slowed down and monitored his signal lights, I get almost to the bus and no lights, so I figure it’s ok to drive past. At the very last minute just as I start to pass him, he turns his left signal on and immediately pulls out. I had to stomp the brake, fortunately there was no one behind me. I’ve also witnessed this happening to other people. The new law seems to have given a number of bus drivers the notion that they rule the road now. It’s literally only a matter of time before an accident happens.
In Victoria BC, a yellow light mean speed up for buses.
that okay o.p., there’s alway tomorrow.
imo, having the right of way doesn’t entitle them to hit you.
just like jaywalkers, we aren’t allowed to run them over.
Mole Rat, there already have been… I was on a bus that sideswiped a car just a few weeks ago.
I just don’t see it slowing down any either.
GV, you are allowed to follow the letter of the law and if they are hit in a non-intersection point, they will be fined. Morality of course tells you not to mow them down in the first place… but if they are in the wrong, there’s really no fault on yourself.
I wonder if some of the bus drivers interpret the law to expect other traffic to just always come to a halt behind a stopped bus “in case” it pulls out, and remain stopped until it does. Which is stupid, since some of the buses stay at stops for a long time, just sitting there, because they’re ahead of schedule or something. I haven’t read the actual wording of the law though.
Busses have blind spots as well. Bus drivers cannot stick their heads out the widow like regular vehicles and rely on their mirrors and the intelligence of other drivers but the latter is often greatly lacking. Get a fucking clue drivers!
I looove when buses do this. But I also take the bus ;D. Screw youuu drivers.
Didn’t the CBC report this last week? Those buses don’t give a fuck. Get the bus number and call the police. Never report it to Metro Transit because they will deny it. Video also helps 🙂 Fuck that poor person transit coffin.
zzz, that must be good pot that you are on, because you are delusional.
You are not allowed to follow the letter of the law if you know it is going to kill a pedestrian. To do so intentionally would be considered criminal negligence, and you can be sent to jail.
