We wrote you up because you weren’t living up to our expectations. You started working for us doing accounting and admin in the spring of 2012, but in the past six months we expanded, and added a little to your duties. Then unexpectedly, your coworker in the same dept. had a death in the family and went on a leave of two weeks. We got you to pick up some more of the slack until the other girl came back. We understand that you have been busier lately but your attitude went downhill drastically, every half hour sighing, every time you’re asked to do something, you sigh. We’re all very busy but you don’t hear us letting out annoyed sighs all the time. We added to the other girl’s duties too (before her close niece died) and she never made any fuss. You have been struggling to keep up with the tasks and when it was discovered that that you were falling far behind in collections and there were still invoices from back in September that weren’t filed yet, this was the last straw. We brought you out to the office and gave you a written warning. Then you asked us if this was joke. When we said no, you were fuming and said to us you should be getting a raise, not a writeup, and you were overworked. Give me a break, you little whiner, we didn’t give you THAT much more to do. As for a raise– we pay you $13/hour, you get paid well enough! When we told you to shape up and get a better attitude before you could get any raise, you went into full temper tantrum and stormed out, screaming you quit! What are you, 25 going on 12? You don’t get what you want, so you quit on the spot? You weren’t doing your job to our expectations, so you were reprimanded, plain and simple. You should have been thankful to have a job; do you know how many people would gladly take your position? So thanks to you, we have to spend the Christmas season doing interviews. —Business Owner sick of entitled Gen Y’ers

  1. Wait! You’re an employer… you’re writing a public bitch about an employee’s performance….

YOU want him/her to “join the adult world”…

    Am I reading this correctly?

  2. So the bitch is about you having to do more work? Ironic, mind you I think the employee wasn’t as good as you or they think they are. Not sure this was the forum to do this however, seems childish.

  3. Merry Christmas Zwarte Miete(y) Love the seasonal addition to your av.

OP I sympathize with your sentiment, but this is really the kind of thing you need to direct at your employee. If you wanted to direct a generic rant towards lazy, self-intitled tumours in the workplace, I’d be with you.
But this? Unprofessional Bru. Very unprofessional.

  4. “you get paid well enough! “
“You should have been thankful to have a job”
    ^^
And this attitude here is why so many Nova Scotians have moved out west for better employment.
$13/hour is a premium wage for accounting/admin work? Really?!? She probably needed some kind of diploma/degree aaannndd experience to even apply to the mediocre-paying position of your fucked up company, didn’t she? You even said so yourself, her attitude went downhill *after* you added to her duties. And this is not any indication that she actually was overworked?! You probably added a lot more to her tasks than you’re willing to admit. I’m glad she walked out on you. Have you ever heard of burnout? Fuck you, cheap-ass NS employer, who wants to have their cake and eat it too.

  5. Yes OB…you are way out of line as an employer to be doing this…i hope the employee finds this letter you have written and uses it to gain compensation for your draconian ass. First, he/she was hired to do a job that you pay 13$/hr. You then tack on extra duties and responsibilities on a single person vice a 2-3 person team without compensation. If this happened to a unionized person you would be answering to their union rep for being a douchebag. Then you write the guy up for increasing his/her workload…what kind of asshole are you? how about you do their job with the workload youve heaped on them with no overtime or any other sort of compensation. The people who you treat like this WIN cases of wrongful dismissal left right and center. YOU FUCKING GRINCH asshole you dont deserve to have employees that bust their asses for you. You remind me of what my mother had to go through working for a private insurance company. 20 years working for them, coming in on weekends to pick up the work load of girls and guys with no families who called in sick twice a week or were hungover. mother has to train these people, wasnt paid for that, did their work, wasnt paid for that. no overtime, no raise..yet every single one of the new people were paid more….GO FUCK YOURSELF OB and i hope you choke on a Christmas Cookie or something so your employees can rejoice throughout the holidays on your demise.

  6. I can understand if an employee lashes out at the employer….but to have the employer lash out at an employee…You’re right Ivanski…very unprofessional….if this person was under my direction..would have fired their candy-ass for posting this.

  7. Yup – makes me seriously question what a prize they must have been to work for. Martha Stewart, maybe?

  8. JOIN THE ADULT WQRLD YOURSELF!

“You should have been thankful to have a job; do you know how many people would gladly take your position? So thanks to you, we have to spend the Christmas season doing interviews.” Business Owner sick of entitled Gen Y’ers

You have to spend the Christmas season doing interviews because you are firing this employee. So why are you preaching about her being thankful to have a job when she shortly won’t have a job? And why are you complaining about having to spend the Christmas season doing interviews? Afraid of a bit of extra work like your soon-to-be-fired employee? You should join the adult world yourself, you buffoon.

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!

  9. This is insane.
You pay them shit, add to their duties AND add to the person’s duties they’re also picking up the entire lack for….. and then have the nerve to bitch them out?

You cheap ass bastard running a skeleton crew and huffing and puffing when the inevitable hiccup comes along.

What if, for instance, your ’employee’ got hit in a crosswalk on the way to work one day (definitely not infeasible these days) while poor old niece loving slacker is out, crying her poor soul into a hanky?
What in the sweet holiest of fucks would you do then?

  10. I’ll take her job. I have a great resume, lots of experience and don’t mind doing extra to chip in… people who botch about their jobs should be thanking their lucky stars they have one. Unemployment sucks…

  11. I think this is a lesson on how to lead staff. You would’ve gotten better results with a ” Thanks for helping us help a fellow worker through a tough time” Lunch or party. instead of bitching and writing them up.
Learn to recognize and address stressful situations

While its not to be snubbed You’re no hero at 13 bucks and hour pay either.

  12. Sounds like an entitled babyboomer who forgot about inflation. It’s a brand new day honey. How you gonna pay someone 2 bucks above min. wage to do all your admin AND accounting and then let go of other workers and expect them to do the jobs of others as well. I bet you didn’t increase the employee’s wage to reflect the extra responsibility you threw at her. Just another cheap asshole looking for his peons to do it all for nothing. Just look at all the money you saved not hiring a certified accountant and getting your admin pissant to do it all for nothing. I hope your business folds under your giant cheap ASS!

  13. $13/hr comes out to $27,040 a year before taxes you stupid asshole and to have someone handling administration AND accounting for that is a complete joke.
You’re the problem here, not your overworked, under appreciated employee but sadly you are all too typical around here, just another boss trying to make profit off their employees rather than from the service/goods they provide.

  14. So… let me get this straight..

You have an employee who is working just above minimum wage. This employee, for reasons you half-assedly explained in your convoluted anecdote, has suddenly had to take on a lot of extra work. You have made no effort, that you speak of, to help her transition into a more demanding role and, when she came to you expressing that she felt overwhelmed and looking for help from her boss, who SHOULD BE HER MENTOR, you made her feel like shit, humiliated her and told her that $13/hr was enough. You even vaguely threatened to fire her. Yes, you did. You’re not fooling anyone. So that’s the first labour standard you pissed on. You CANNOT fire, or threaten to fire, an employee because they express concern over their job.

Her wage aside (and yes, actually it IS hard to live on $13/hr), this is an absolutely inappropriate way to handle an employee coming to you for help because they feel overwhelmed. And it seems generally that you have some issue with this employee that goes beyond her performance in the workplace. There is something personal going on here. Maybe you overheard her saying she didn’t like your boots. Maybe she has stood up to you one too many times. Maybe she got more male attention at the Christmas party than you did. Maybe she’s just smarter, funnier or more well liked. But I smell something very unprofessional going on here.

Then.. oh then, this is the best part.. you come on a public bitching site and give a DETAILED account of her work performance. It may be anonymous but you were stupid enough to give every damn detail about the thing so it’s pretty much clear to anyone that knows either of you that this was you. And to add insult to injury, OTHER employees in the orbit of this inappropriate action sustained collateral damage when you gave out THEIR details in your desperate attempt to do her harm. And as her superior this is not only totally inappropriate but, in any reputable company, grounds for immediate and swift disciplinary action. If i were your boss, you wouldn’t get a warning. You’d be out on your ass in a second. And perhaps if your boss reads this, or your hapless employee reads this and decides that yes, RunsWithScissors is right, and reports you, you WILL be out on your ass before you do any of these people further damage.

I hope your company has a decent HR department because employee, if you’re listening, that’s the first place you need to go to deal with this fool.

  15. There are 2 sides to every story, so I’m willing to bet that the employee’s side will shed some more light on this. You came here for sympathy OP, it’s clearly not gonna happen.

  16. Seriously Halifax is a small town. It might be possible that I already KNOW the players in this story which is why I can speak with the authority I did in my last post. And if that’s the case, I’ll just report you myself.

Of course, it’s also equally possible that I don’t. Who knows?

I’ll leave that for you to stew over throughout the holidays.

  17. You are pathetic, hypocritical, and petty beyond words.
What kind of employer makes a post regarding a past employee on a public bitch forum?! Seriously. Maybe you can ask your self, and get introspective as you pick up the pieces over Christmas. And you should probably take that $13 bucks an hour and wipe your ass with it. Maybe the economey dictates what you can pay in wages, or maybe your just a cheap prick. Either way, it isn’t your job to decide the worth of a dollar you pompous idiot. I make 12 dollars an hour, and it is extremely tough. Mind you I do not have an education, so I accept my inferior wage and press on towards my greater goals. But be assured I do not go above an beyond for a company that clearly doesn’t value me as a person or an asset.

The most laughable part is that you cap it of by pigeonholing an entire generation as “entitled”, while
your babyboomer entitlment shines through this post like a fucking mag-light.

    Your a peice of dirt

  18. Scissors: the handle says ‘business owner’ so this is just another narcissistic prick who thinks everyone owes them because they run a business.

Funny thing is: Employees are a company’s biggest asset and can make or break an organization. I’ve never treated my staff with anything less than appreciation. It lends itself to more motivated and productive staff, but it’s also what you just do as a decent fucking human being, of which you certainly are not, ob.

I hope your shitty business goes tits up you entitled, narcissistic, peice of shit twat.

  19. i hope the employee does read this site and retorts, with the name of the employer and their worksite. then we can all report them to the BBC or something for workplace harassment. lol….that would be an awesome christmas present for this POS boss.

  20. I still can’t believe it. 13/hr. My pay rate hasn’t exactly kept pace with inflation either but at least I can feed my pets.

  21. Wouldn’t it be sick if it was the employee who wrote this posing as the employer, just to fuck them over?

  22. ai carumba. or karate. boss is bitching because he/she was looking forward to a nice lingering session of browbeating an employee and see her cry, cringe, maybe beg for another chance, and instead she has the gumption to walk out!
ha! hoist by your own petard you asshole. you own the place, you pick up the slack. probably poking the gal who got sympathy leave.

  23. Lolz, Molly, ob’s just pissed because this poor employee didn’t feed their ego and beg for forgiveness and gush about how grateful they are.

Looks good on ya, ya peice if shit.

  24. OB all of us workers are sick & tired of you damn owners who feel you can hire us to do a job & then expect more & more out of us …. For no additional reward
You want to “add a few additional duties” add some additional pay or a bonus like time off etc

You want more for nothing & believe people should be happy just because “they are lucky to have a job”
Fuck you FYI there are lots of jobs available for those of us who are good at them

  25. If this is a legit bitch, I suggest that this employer also may want to hire someone to handle Human Resources for them ASAP.
