Because there is an automated keyword search that screens people in or out based on that work experience – before anyone even looks at the resumes – so get it right.

A job search is a full-time endeavour so we understand how pressed for time you are inputting information into the required fields. The beauty of electronic resumes is the copy/paste feature which makes transposing information much easier. There is not a lot of manual work involved in uploading information. Right-click/left-click and alt+tab should be your best friends. G’wan, give them a try!
Here is what you should do:
On your resume list your last employer ONLY. Using point form bullets go into as much detail as possible about what you did, why you excelled at that position, how you gained managements confidence, etc. Also include a highlights of qualification, objective, education (including any training such as first aid) and any volunteer work you have done. Then on the application you name off the employers previous to that, you don’t have to go into detail here. Just where it was that you worked, your position and when you worked there. You can even add this info into a word document so you don’t have to type it out several times. ctrl + C to copy a line of text, ctrl + V to paste … hold down shift and use the arrow keys to highlight, tab button to switch fields on the application.
If it is a job you really WANT, as opposed to one you would accept in the short term to stay afloat while you keep looking, include a personalized cover letter. The cover letter should accent your skill set and why you think it would be useful to your prospective employer.

You apply for a job, send your resume and have to type it all again electronically.
I did that at an interview. Sent them my resume and had to hand write it all over again under 12 minutes (took my twenty minutes). What was the point?
