Just started job hunting for the first time in a long time and wow is it ever hard to get use to how things are done now. What happened to the simple walking in and giving a resume? Instead of this crap where you have to go online and make accounts then try to figure out the sites. Its frustrating!!!! —Wish this was a lot easier

You can still walk in with resumes.
Jesus, you can walk in with resume’s to places like Lawtons (belch) or mcdonalds (ew) but many of the ‘better’ jobs require you to apply online and many of them have online forms you have to fill out along with your resume and many of them require you to make an account. I was job hunting a year ago (was only unemployed for about a month and a half) and I also found this very frustrating. On the other hand, it saved me from having to travel all around the city handing out pieces of paper and I was able to apply to 10+ places/day from the comfort of my home.
Consider it a first step in the elimination process. If someone can’t manage to navigate the website and doesn’t bother to find out how to create a decent resume than maybe they aren’t suited for the job.
You can also look at it as an opportunity. I’ve reviewed many resumes over the years and, unfortunately, many were poorly formatted, too long, and didn’t highlight the important details.
You can stand out by being one of the few people who submit a concise, coherent, and well structured resume that only includes details pertinent to the job being applied for. Ideally, it is one page – two at most. The idea is to pique the interest of those doing the first pass of resumes so that they bring you in for an interview – by highlighting what you can bring to the job.
There are lots of resources on the web. This one looks pretty concise and has a couple of templates you can download for free:

Good luck.
^^ One more hint. When writing your resume (and if you get an interview) remember that your potential manager is primarily, and necessarily selfishly, looking for two things:
– someone who will make the manager look good – by being both competent and very reliable in doing your job. If you fail then you make the manager look bad for hiring the wrong person
– someone who is “low maintenance – knows how to talk to customers, is self-motivated, and is a team player who gets along with the other staff, i.e. you will not be a pain in the ass.
If you can convince your potential employer that you fulfill both of these then you have a good chance of being hired.
