I can appreciate that you’re talented and that you want to share your talent with the world, but please understand that jazz music only appeals to a select few and that not everyone wants to hear you play for hours everyday. Maybe you could do me and my sanity a favour and find somewhere else to play? Like, you know, the woods or something?

Oh I hear you man, and that Rock and Roll/ Country stuff that happens on the commons sometimes, it’s plain annoying. I wish they’d go into the woods or something. Yeah … …
yeah, but then they couldn’t annoy the fuck out of you, could they.do you realize how long they do that, just to annoy you,hours on end.
I’ll take jazz over souped up hondas that are loud on purpose, people asking for change, and people yelling at each other.
I guess the OB has been living under a rock not knowing there is a little something called a JAZZ FESTIVAL in town.

Yet another fine example of “friendly Nova Scotia”. Good on ya, OP *gag* God knows there are tons of properties in Nova Scotia where you can listen to chickens all day all day instead. I suggest you move out of the city so you may be effectively avoided.
There was a complaint about Jazz Festival featuring a bunch of Rap/Hip-Hop artists. lol
Not sure what is worse: the caterwauling saxophonist wailing away for change on the corner of SGR all day long, or the sudden and unwelcome hip-hop infestation of the jazz fest. Either will drive people away.

Seriously people, a jazz festival celebrates Jazz &other styles of music that exist on the extremities. Hip hop included. While gagsta rap may not make the cut there is plenty of hip hop, folk, rock, polka and other genres that are still perfectly at home in a festival of jazz… Or then again maybe not? Maybe we should go back to when a jazz festival had to cater to only elitist jazz hands, a pop explosion couldn’t see past indie rock and the road to ecmas was reserved for folks with a fiddle.
Music is beautiful in many forms, and when they come together it’s magic. open your ears and your heart… if not a jumbo pack of ear plugs is under $10…. And feel free to get bent.
p.s. the De La/Ali/Extremities show was a super fresh way to kick off Jazz Fest 2010.
I just don’t think it is possible to have a full week (or longer) music festival made up entirely of jazz musicians. If they start inviting just about anyone who claims they are jazz musicians, then perhaps it would be possible. However, in such case, people would be complaining about the quality of the music then. Someone suggested calling it “Halifax music festival” instead of jazz festival.

You think the line up for the Jazz Fest here is incongruous, check out the line up for the Ottawa “Blues” Festival – including: Iron Maiden, Faber Drive and Keith Urban, to name a few…
Jazz sounds like 12 musicians got together and all brought different music sheets – almost, and i emphasise almost as bad as rap.
Finally, an OP I totally agree with. Maybe we could get some of those horns from the World Cup to play during the Jazz Festival.
