As a resident who lives near the Commons, it’s lovely to see people walking by with their ice skates slung over their shoulder, cheeks rosy, and full of spirit following a skating session at the Oval. But come on Halifax, it’s no longer a temporary establishment, you know that we love it, so what’s with the trailer park? Is the next season of the Trailer Park Boys going to be filmed there? We’ve proven that we can get it right with the new library, let’s apply that thinking elsewhere! —Bubs

SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI
“But come on Halifax, it’s no longer a temporary establishment, you know that we love it, so what’s with the trailer park?” Bubs
The fact that you love it does affect its temporality, its existence in time. Many things which no longer exist have been loved. Put differently, there is no coherent relationship between the empirical fact of permanence on the one hand and intense psychological states such as love on the other. They belong to distinct ontological categories. As the old saying goes, “Sic transit gloria mundi” (that’s Latin for “Thus passes the glory of the world.”)
A pleasure as always,
Cheerio!
Typo: “The fact that you love it does NOT affect its temporality, is existence in time.” Damn.
Do not forget that income tax was a temporary measure, as well, and that was back in 1917. Good luck seeing these trailers vanish anytime soon.
I don’t get the title of this Bitch.
“As a resident who lives near the Commons,” you can keep up to date on why there hasn’t yet been a permanent structure built in support of the Oval– the main reason being that there are legislations in place (as well as lobbyists who support these legislations) to prevent the building of permanent structures on the Commons.
There is a lot of information, albeit one-sided, on the “Friends of the Halifax Common” website.

Read up.
I’m pretty sure the city has an RFP out at this very moment for permanent structures for the oval.
