I know, I know. It is my own responsibility if I happen to lose something. Personally, I hate the idea of having a cell phone but it seems to be a nescessity these days. I am pissed off because somehow my phone got lost on a Metro Transit bus and the next day I get a phone call from the person who has my phone. They said “Oh, I have the wrong number” and I told them “Oh, you have my phone” then they said “It’s a nice phone…” and I said, “Well are you going to keep it or something?” They told me they would turn it into the bus driver to put in the lost and found. Turns out, the person never did that and decided to be an asshole and go through my contacts. It just bothers me that someone wouldn’t have the decency to return something that isn’t their own

  1. When you get your new phone, every so often (while you’re on the same bus), call your old number. There is a good chance you will hear your cell ring and see the person who has it.

  2. What you should have done was call your cell phone company and have them disconnect your phone until you found it. God only knows who or where they called with your phone. If you get a new cell phone, I’d definitely change your number.

  3. Hmm . . . I might be tempted to make a few calls to “myself” at all hours of the night . . . just to check in.

  4. Wow, what a jerk! I lost my phone 3 times (I know, I know) when I lived in Halifax and all I had to do was call the number and the person who found it either met me somewhere or I went to them and collected it.

  5. does anyone lock their phone anymore these days?!?!?!? there’s a reason security is built into a phone people.

when I had a blackberry for work, I had to unlock it if it went unused for 3 mins. I can see why that is a handy feature to have….

  6. Maybe some people don’t have that security lock, we’re not all “fortunate” to have Blackberries…

  7. With Blackberries you can have your administrator log in to the BES (Blackberry Exchange Server) and wipe your simcard….wiping out the contacts and pretty much everything else too. They could still get a new card and re-use the phone, but none your info would be on it.

  8. Oh and I have yet to find a regular old cell phone that doesn’t have a screenphone lock on it. Pretty simple to activate it from the options menu…

  9. every damn thing has one.
EVERY ONE that I’ve come across and I’ve seen a fair share in my day… being a bit of a techy

  10. Fuck people, you are all brilliant! This is the most usefully informative thread I’ve ever read in this site……wow…..I’m impressed!

(I wish I had a cell phone to put the tips to use……shit!)

  11. Ah, okay I barely use my phone so I haven’t taken the time to look through it. Thanks SwampDonkey and the rest of you…

  12. Cancel the phone. Any calls they make will go on your bill and if you didn’t report it lost/stolen then you’ll have to pay.

  13. That’s mean. I find lost things all the time (phones, wallets, IDs, purses) and I always return them. Admittedly I do go through the contacts to find their home number or something, but only to return it. People are dicks though, canceling it is better than having your phone bill jacked up. 🙁

  14. even the cheap assed samsung and telus phones you by for 50 bucks have a lock feature – they all have it
