I am sick to death of folks driving around the city illegally talking on their hand held cell phones. I watch them taking crazy wide turns, and weaving all over the road because they are not paying attention. They are just plain dangerous drivers, period.
What I want to know is, what is so important that you need to talk and drive at the same time, people? Unless it is the organ transplant folks calling to tell you that your long awaited kidney is ready for you, your call is not important enough to put your life and the life of others in jeopardy because you are not paying attention while you drive. yeah it is illegal, but so is killing someone, and you won’t see that stopping real fast either. i see some prime idiots in my meanderings around this town, the worst offenders are the lawyers, and politicos. check it out sometime. count how many in an hour. but member to get plate numbers too. or if walking and have a phone cam, snap a pic.
since cell phones pose such a monumentally gigantic safety risk when being used by a driver operating a motor vehicle, lets look at all the other things which we can make illegal and bring in some more cash by way of fines.
first and most heinous i think we should eliminate anyone but the driver in the vehicle. the chatter between driver and passenger is a massive distraction. GPS devices both factory installed and the aftermarket ones which can be purchased take attention from the road. The goddamn factory ones have take up residence on the instrument column; taking the drivers eye entirely off the road in order to be viewed.
should we also ban the mp3 player input jack common on so many new vehicles? you sure as hell cant navigate through the songs on that handheld player without taking your eyes off the road. What about lipstick, eyeliner and compacts, all of which ive seen in use behind the wheel while in traffic.
possibly do away with babies in the car because turning around to fret with your offspring in the car seat doesnt allow for care and control of your machine.
regarding becoming little agents of justice with our cell phones…are we not hurtling towards 1984 fast enough as it is? let the police attempt to do the job on their own, thereby possibly leaving a few dollars in someones pocket for doing little more than breaking a trivial law that i see as nothing more than a cash cow for this tax hungry province.

People do not have to be on a cell phones to be a horrible driver. Just yesterday i was in left lane and man driving in right lane swirved to my lane forcing me off the road, even when i honked my horn at him he didn’t realize there was something wrong with what he just did.
all of my sentiments were expressed in comment #2…. i truly dont recall people having a huge problem with cellphones *before* they were illegal…
Well put John. the cell phone ban while driving is useless. I would also like to add stuffing your face with fast food while driving happens alot too and could be a big distraction.
